I want a crib!

I wanted a crib since planning my first dc, but we knew we would be going on a self catering holiday a couple of.months after she was born so bought a moses basket for the portability. Our house is too small to warrant both crib and basket.

Im.now expecting dc2 and this will more than likely be our last. I really really want a crib. I have yearned for one!

Dh is ever so practical and insist we dont need one Sad

Anyone have a crib? Was it a good purchase?

we were given one from a friend, was a good for the transition from moses basket before going into the big cot. Meant he could stay in our room till just over 6 months before going to share with dd who was 2... roomier than moses basket...not essential imo. we have lent it out to another 9 babies Smile

We bought a crib and borrowed a Moses basket. Used the basket for naps downstairs in the day but she has slept in it at night from birth (when not co-sleeping!) I love it, plenty of room still even though she's long for her age ( 4.5m) so she should still fit in it til 6m. It suited us as I wanted her in the same room as us til 6m and she out grew the Moses basket at about 3.5m. I think it might help with the transition to the cot as well as has bars on the side similar to a cot so is not as enclosed as a basket, is also semi portable in that am planning on moving it to her room 1st for a week or so before swapping her into her cot. It wasn't that dear either, think it was £70 ish from mothercare, which by the time you've bought a stand for the Moses basket doesn't work out much dearer. Plus the spare sheets for it are the perfect size to fit over the hood of her pushchair to make a sunshade (cheapskate moi?!!)

Our stroller has a carrycot attached so we used to use that for dd1s daytime sleeps, and leave the basket in the bedroom, but when dc2 arrives, I plan on usong a sling for the first few months and keeping the stroller for dd1. Then when they get to three/four months, they can use the stroller too (lies totally flat). Therefore I dont want to keep attaching the carrycot just for naps and having to take it off again when we go out, so would put the basket in the lounge and the crib in the bedroom.

this is the one I want only £40 so surely DH will not grumble too much.

I have the Hyde crib from Mothercare. I decided to go for this one as I didn't want to get into the habit of rocking baby to sleep with the rocking style cribs as some people say when you try switch to their cot they miss the rocking motion. And for £40 it's been a good value buy Smile I generally prefer the idea of a crib as they seem more hygienic (moses baskets seem like dust collectors to me) and better ventilated.
We also use the carrycot as her downstairs bed but I try and have her sleeping in the crib as much as possible as the mattress we got for the crib is much better than the one that came with the carrycot!

Which mattress did you get, if you dont mind me asking. The ones that go with it on the MC website seem to have mixed reviews.

I got one second hand this time, a gliding one - it was useless as ds3 didn't want to be lying down AT all. It was used once for approximately 10 minutes. It just got in the way.

Don't buy the Anna gliding crib from John Lewis (other places sell it too) the bottom is too narrow and falls out if you don't screw it together really, really tightly. (yes I did raise a complaint, but it was second hand so couldn't take it back)

We got this one
Yes it's expensive but the quality is excellent and we're quite environmentally conscious and so like to use natural products as much as we can. Also as it's naturally antifungal so I'm happy it can be stored and used again in 2/3 years time when we hopefully have baby number 2! Reusing foam mattresses after being stored is not recommended as I understand it.
