hi everyone,
if anyone could advise i will be grateful.
my 9 month old daughter is refusing all milk. she only has 2 bottles a day and will only drink couple of oz in the morning and will drink an oz if that before bed. i have rang hv but the havent come back to me. im getting a bit worried.
we are thinking of booking a holiday and when im reading what to take milk etc, everyone saying how important it is etc. my child will not drink it!! lol.
i have tried giving her milk at different times, giving it in a beaker rather than bottle and nothing is working. she is a fantastic eater and drinks water throughout day. she also has her vitamin drops.
should i try cows milk? i just dont know. please help???

Mine did this, and declined cows milk too. He was thriving, and had plenty of dairy with meals during the day. I sidelined the battle, as it was going no where, gave him water to drink, and "let" him sit on his Dad's knee and share breakfast in the morning. DH had to switch to full fat milk for this but was game.

Within a week or two he was drinking cows milk. I know in theory they should be on formula or breast milk until one, but I couldn't force it into him, and I figured the alternative was water.

What about formula with the cereal?

thanks for response, i feel like im going mad!!! lol. she has cereal with her milk in, in the morn which seems ok with. she has yogs etc. jus dont know what to do for the best.
she has never been much of a milk fan, loves her food to much, but this is rediculous! when she goes to bed she just wants to sleep, not intrested at all in milk. when we have manged to get milk in her she will drink about 4 oz have a burp then scream at bottle and push it away to go to sleep.
this has been going on for a while and can normally trick her whist she asleep, but not anymore. she is wise to her mummy now! lol xxxxx

If she's a good eater then I really wouldn't panic - lots of cheese sauce/yogurt/blend milk and fruit to make a smoothie/custard etc. and you're covered.

DD2 was the same. I spent ages worrying about it. From about 4 months she drank way below the guideline amount, and when she started solids, she drank very little. I tried to concentrate on giving her cheese, yoghurt, cereal etc. it doesn't seem to have done her any harm. She is a total menace now, but I sympathise because I worried so much at the time.

My dd refused formula at 9mo, she went on to cows milk (better than no milk at all IMO) and then at 14 mo she refused that too. She had plenty of cheese, yogurts etc in her diet so I didn't panic too much. She's now 8yo and still doesn't like milk.

Try not to worry too much, some kids just don't like milk.

I'd be tempted to discuss it with your GP OP. The NHS guidance is that 20floz of first stage formula is the minimum at this age if you aren't bfing. GP may well say its fine, but I would talk to them anyway Smile

My DD went off milk few times before she was one and i was advised to change the formula. We tried them all and the only one she drank was Nanny Care goat milk formula. Its more expensive, but she has milk.

My chap gave up milk as soon as he discovered food. Has a couple of oz in the morning and a bit at night. I spoke to the HV at the time and they just advised sneaking milk into his food (milk mashed potato etc).

it is odd when everyone else's baby seems to have 3/4 bottles a day but obv your little one doesn't fancy it. and it means you have one less thing to take on holiday!!

My niece stop having milk as soon as she ate food, she still loathes it. She does eat cheeses though so still have plenty of calcium. she has orange juice with dry cereals in the morning Hmm She is a very tall healthy 7 yo.
As long as your baby drinks and eat plenty and varied food she is fine. You can't force feed milk anymore than you can force feed food.

My dd was the same- I even posted about it on mumsnet!

She barely breastfed after about 9mo, and refused cows milk. She stopped having breastmilk altogether on her 1st birthday. Now she very very occasionally has a drink of milk at playgroup or similar. She's 3yo now and seems fine!

I figured since she was/is having milk on her cereal, yoghurt, cheese, etc, that it was ok. And tbh when I see friends having to make up bottles for their 2/3yo to get them to sleep, or struggling to wean a toddler from the breast, I'm quote glad of dd's milk refusing ways! It worried me at the time tho.
