Baby loves watching tv, do I need to be careful that he doesn't become too fixated?

Am happy to be told I'm PFB and a bit nuts.

However, my baby loves tv! When he's feeding he will lean around me to watch it (obviously just looking at the faces and listening to the sounds etc)

I don't want him to be a telly addict or a couch potato type child.

We have the tv on, but not all the time- I don't know where this fascination is coming from!

Is this normal?

Should I just turn it off? He seems to like it though, so I don't want to be mean!

Sounds perfectly normal to me. Personally, as long as you are interacting with him loadds at other times, taking him out and about if you like doing that, I don't think a bit of TV does them any harm - others will say absolutely no tv at all, why is it necessary etc. only thing I wish I had stuck to my guns about was no TV during dinner - difficult to get my 3yo not to watch while eating now. I also only allowed babytv or cbeebies - I don't like them watching cartoons with mock violence or adult themes.

I can understand where your baby is coming from, as I find it difficult to ignore a TV that's switched on - I hate having TVs on in the background, and ours is only on in the evening if we're watching something specific.

We had a 'no TV until 2 years old' rule for the DC, and then only very small amounts, and only 'child' programmes/films. Our oldest is 5 now.

But to be honest, most other people let their kids watch far more TV and they seem to have turned out just fine, so I doubt it has that much effect. I'm still happy with our very-little-TV for kids lifestyle though. It will probably change as they get older.

I wouldn't worry - they go through phases of it - my dd was really into TV - just like you describe - but now she can crawl getting into mischief is way more interesting. There are times I needed it to get a dinner on the table. As long as its just one of the things you do it's really not a problem. XX
