Norovirus: how much longer?

DD (2.5) started vomiting last Thursday night
Friday she was fine but Saturday explosive poo began and Sunday, after a peaceful morning that lulled silly old me into a false sense of security, the gates of hell opened with vomiting and diarrhea
I did 12 loads of laundry over the weekend and Monday started feeling nauseous. Monday night it was my turn. I am eight months pregnant and it doesn't help
Anyway after a ghastly Tuesday we both seemed much better yesterday and then... DD started diarrhea again at 5 am today and now I feel nauseous again

How much longer will it last?

Continued

I thought it was 3-5 days. 7 if we are not lucky. Anyone?

And does diet matter? We are on brat plus carrots and yesterday we tried some chicken soup. Could it have returned because of that?
Should we stay on brat until we are symptoms free for longer than 24 hours? We had the chicken soup after 24 hours but now I wonder.

I am supposed to have a check up next Monday. I had to move it from this week as they obviously don't want me anywhere near the hospital. I am already one week late for the check up and this was a high risk pregnancy with threatened miscarriages etc.
and next Thursday we are due to leave on a babymoon holiday. Now I fear I won't be 48 hours symptoms free by Monday

And wasn't it supposed to be the WINTER vomiting bug? Hmm

For norovirus it should be no more than 48 hours. For rotavirus, which is norovirus's nasty big brother, it is 3-9 days.

Norovirus is very contagious and also be careful because you're pregnant. The risk for you is getting dehydrated.

You might get sick again, because the virus isn't only very contagious it also can stay alive for a long time outside the body.

It basically means you got to clean EVERYTHING in the house with a disinfectant. Don't forget your clothes. It ALL need to be washed at at least 60 degrees Celsius.

When vomiting the virus can spread itself threw the air. That's why everything needs to be cleaned.

Especially after you went to the toilet you got to wash your hands and you can use hand alcohol after you washed them.

Don't forget to wash them also before you are going to handle food.

After the sickness is gone you can still give the virus to others. I thought it was about a week after the sickness is gone that you're not able anymore to give the virus to others.

For more information you can always give you GP a ring.

Take care,
Sylvia
