2.4 year old being a nightmare - did I do the right thing?

Just had one of those Tanya Byron moments holding my ds still while he had one of those 'I'm in such a rage I'm going to make myself sick' tantrums - all because he wouldn't eat his lunch and wanted a yoghurt and I wouldn't give him one. He was spitting at me, throwing his lunch around etc. I usually give him a chance to apologise and go back and eat his lunch (even if just a little), and then give him a yoghurt, but today that wasn't working. I realised one of his last few molars is coming through and he's had some Nurofen, but I don't think that excused the behaviour which was some of his worst. He's now in bed and actually went to bed fairly peacfully in the end after a cuddle. Should I have given in and given him the bloody yoghurt?

No, definitely not!! You did the right thing. When ds (2.5) does that with his lunch he doesn't get the yogurt until he's eaten a little bit of main course. There have been times when I've had enough and he's had no lunch and that usually puts him right for a few weeks until he thinks he'll try his luck again!
I know that if I ever gave in and let him have the yogurt I'd have the same scenario every mealtime. NEVER NEVER give in when you've set a rule Grin

Nope! You did the right thing. Poor baby. The dentist told me that DT1 has 4 teeth still to come and DT2 has 6. Great!!!!!!!!!! [rueful grin]
