Just after some tips from some of u who hav been there and done it, my ds weighed 15lb at 8weeks and I'm really struggling with back ache after lifting and holding him. I no about all the norm lifting things e.g bend knees etc but am finding my back ache is stopping me doing things and I'm needing to take pain killers all the time. Are there an useful aids out there anyone has or tips to make things easier or do I just need to toughen up? X

No advice but sympathy. I have same problem. Ds is 9 months and 25lbs. It's like carrying a bag of cement around with me permanently.
I have started to see an osteopath regularly and just praying ds gets on the move soon so I don't have to carry him any more or he at least learns to cling on a bit!

I dread to think what I'm going to do when he gets bigger! When ds is upset sometimes I hav to put him in his pram to rock him rather then holding him. I feel so mean! On the plus side I do feel I will prob b developing super strength if my bones hold out!

I know exactly what you mean about not being able to hold him. I don't hold ds to feed him or rock him to sooth him: I just can't. People laugh when they see me carrying him as he is more than half my length; I'm only 5ft. I do like the idea of have a big strong son when I'm old and frail though lol Wink

Been there and got the arthritic hip to show for it!
I was blessed with big'uns (fnar) - two of mine were over 10lbs at birth and never moved off the top centile.
If I could go back 18 years (yes, I have had the pain for that long), I'd take lessons in Alexander Technique and learn how to carry the DCs without damaging myself.
Turns out I have mild scoliosis, which may or may not have started to bother me anyway by now, but I'm convinced lugging those great lumps precious bundles around - especially since I was so one-sided - did me no good at all.
AT equips you to do everything you want to do in your day to day life - so you pick your baby up as much as you or he/she like.
It's the only thing that's given me sustained relief and I'm now hopeful about picking up my grandchildren when they eventually arrive.
Don't rely on this easing off by itself - it won't, and you may go on to have more DCs - what then?

Sorry to hector, but I really feel strongly about this.
