And how old are they?

Trying to work out what is right.

Mine are 4 (nearly 5), 6 and 7. They go to bed at 7pm, 7.30 and 7.30 plus half hour reading in bed.

4 year old, almost 5 goes to bed at about 7-7.30, normally asleep by 8.30 if he's not messing around.

1 year old (as of tomorrow) goes at about 7 but doesn't sleep through yet.

I'm quite strict when it comes to bedtime because I want them to have enough energy/focus for things. I don't want to deal with over tiredness as well the usual tantrums.

miffybun73 · 20/06/2013 20:34

nearly 3 year old - 7:15/7:30 ish.

Just turned 5 year old - 7:30/7:45 ish.

Both sleep for between 11 and 12 hours. No naps.

MegBusset · 20/06/2013 20:34

7 (4yo) and 7.30 (6yo).

Dd is 3 asks for bed between 7-7.30 & takes 15-20minutes to nod off
Ds is 6 & I like him to be in bed by 7.30 - 8pm , he can take upto 45 minutes to get to sleep
Dd will wake when I get up around 7am
Ds needs a bit of persuasion to get up at 7.30
The mums at nursery when ds was there (so age 3-4) used to think I was strict as he was always in bed asleep by 6.30 ... He really needed 12-13 hours sleep though

MoodyDidIt · 20/06/2013 20:36

mine are 4 and 7 and go up at 7pm. have done since they were babies.

however they have taking to pissing about for hours playing and chatting for a bit which makes me wonder if its too early

it sounds horrible but by 7pm i just want them out of my hair Blush just so me and dh can chill and have some adult time

Ragwort · 20/06/2013 20:37

My DS went to bed at 7pm from Day 6 (when we came out of hospital Grin) until he was about 9 - barring the odd special occasion or when he had Cubs - I wasn't totally anal about it.

He is 12 now and usually goes to bed around 9pm on school nights - Fridays and Saturdays I am not so worried.

InsanelyBrainDeprived · 20/06/2013 20:40

Dc1 who is 3 goes at 8pm. Ds2 20months goes at 7.30 not early enough for us. They usually wake at 7.30/8 and still have two hour nap after lunch

themaltesecat · 20/06/2013 22:52

Mine is 2. Asleep by 11pm on a good night.

If you think your child is messing about at bedtime because they're not tired or you think they're overtired: the nhs website has information on how much sleep each age needs.
obviously there are lots of exceptions that are at the far ends of the scale though.
My 8 yrolds need about 11 hours so 830pm to 730 am and 11 yrold needs about 10 so goes about 930.

MinimalistMommi · 21/06/2013 18:40

Five year old: 6.30 pm
Eight year old: 7.00 pm

Taffeta · 21/06/2013 18:42

6 yo 7.45pm
9 yo 8.30pm

Recently shifted from 7.30/8.15

Taffeta · 21/06/2013 18:44

Oh and wrt guidelines about ow old how much sleep mine vary enormously. DD has always needed about 11 hours. DS since he was 5 hasn't needed more than 9.

RNJ3007 · 21/06/2013 18:47

My DD is 4 next week. She goes up for bath at 1845, in bed by 1915, more like 1930-1945 at weekends.

Overreactionoftheweek · 21/06/2013 18:48

20 month old - in bed by 5pm and wakes at 6am. He has a two hour nap in the morning.
I feel like I won the lottery Grin

He just loves his sleep like me...I'm too scared to have another one yet because I just know that one will be like my brother who didn't sleep through the night until he was 12!

NettoSuperstar · 21/06/2013 18:50

Whenever she wants, she's 11.
She's a night owl like me, but also great at self regulating, and will take herself to bed at 7 if she's tired.
We've had plenty of issues over the years, but never the classics of food and sleep!

SupermansBigRedPants · 21/06/2013 18:51

Dd is 8 and has always had an 8/9 bedtime - 9 until school age, 8 until recently when we've went back upto 9 as she's getting older.

Ds is 19 months and was bedded at 8, not sleeping until 11 and waking everywhere from 5.45 - 10.30 Hmm now his naps have been cut out bed is 6.30/7 till 7 am - i used to be Confused at early bedtimes but now covet ds's as a lifeline!

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 21/06/2013 18:52

7yo - 7pm...is allowed to read until 7.30pm.

TrinityRhino · 21/06/2013 18:55

gecko is 6 and dd2 is 8

they are into bed and reading for 15 mins by 7.30 on a weekday and 7.30 with a video in bed or 8.30 at the weekend

dd1 is 13 and for some reason still listens to me and does as she is told about bedtime Grin
so hers is lights out by 9pm on a week day 10 on a weekend

TrinityRhino · 21/06/2013 18:55

they all get up at 7am

lolalotta · 21/06/2013 19:25

My 3.5yr old goes to bed at 6.30pm. Grin

ouryve · 21/06/2013 19:26

they're 7 and 9 and go between 8:30 and 9. DS2 only sleeps for around 9 hours, so any earlier is not fun, the next morning.

TripleRock · 21/06/2013 19:38

My 2 yo goes up to bed as near to 7-7:30 as we can manage. But she's rarely asleep before 8:30 unfortunately. Sometimes nearer 9.

She is also up between 6-7am, so it's too late imo. However she still has a nap in the day (unavoidably, so the best I can do at this stage is keep it short and early). I'm hoping she'll go off to sleep earlier once daytime naps are a thing of the past.

On the bright side, she does sleep through.

rednellie · 21/06/2013 20:59

My 15 month old twins and 3.5 yr old DD go to bed at 6.30pm. DD normally stays up for a bit reading, but never later than 7pm.

Doshusallie · 21/06/2013 21:02

Mine are 6 and 8. They go to bed at 7.30-8, earlier if I have had enough.
