Best toys for DD's 1st birthday

Hi

My DD is one soon and I'm really not sure what to buy her, plus I'm being asked for ideas from family. We've got loads of books, so am thinking toys.

What have been your LO's favourites? I love those wooden kitchens but not sure if she's too young and it's lot of space to take up if not being used.

Thanks x

A trike? The little push along ones with the big handles (my powers of description are failing me tonight...) a paddling pool? A sandpit? Or a really nice picture or illustration for her nursery, that's something I always want for my DS but can't afford.

Thanks legs, I've seen those new trike things being pushed around. A bit different to them in our day! I bought a paddling pool the other day....now waiting or the weather(!!), and our lovely friends and family have already bought some personalised illustrations.

Will investigate the trike thing for my mum thanks x

My DS was one two weeks ago and his favourite gifts have been his trike (he adores it and it has already been well used), his paddling pool, a pop up tunnel he crawls in and out of and a huge mickey mouse balloon he sat for hours with talking to. He also loved the boxes everything came in.

Would agree with sand and water. Kept mine amused for hours at a time in the summer. That and ELC happyland sets.

Ha ha, what is it with packaging and ribbons! They seem to like anything that isn't a toy!

Thanks Sharon, a trike is looking promising. Just googled the smart trike and its nearly £100!...that'll def. be a grandma gift! :) Love the balloon idea too x

A pram or buggy.

FattyMcChubster · 19/06/2013 22:31

Sand/water, slide, swing, trike, ball, soft dolls, chunky cars, wooden train set, chunky animal puzzles, stacking cups.

Put those ball pool balls in the paddling pool while the weather isn't good! Pound land do a big bag for £1.

Are there any toys she plays with at a toddler group/CM/nursery/friends' houses that you don't have at home?

DD has loved the following from well before she was two:

Plastic baby type doll & buggy
Little tikes car
Scuttlebug
Ride on henry Hoover that you can also put stuff in
Paint and roll of lining paper to do massive paintings on
Pop up tent and tunnel (it is now her "office" apparently)
Garden play equipment (toddler size slide) though she has grown out of it as she is as long as the slide, so it doesn't have a very long life.

We got her a kitchen for her second birthday and that was about right.

I second Early learning centre happyland sets.

We like playmobil 123 as it has a bit more lifespan than happy land. DS now four still plays with his playmobil 123 police boat in the bath. It's incredibly robust and when they start to grow out of it, it's still a fab outdoor toy as the slightly larger scale helps avoid it getting lost in the grass.

Other than that maybe some duplo as something to grow into?
