Can my father take my daughter to the doctors on my behalf?

Yes, my mum looks after dd and has taken her.

If it is for vaccinations our practice asks for a permission letter, although this seems a nonsense to me when I book the appointment.

Thank you - thought I might have
to set up permission with the surgery in advance

My Mum has taken my ds before to her surgery. It's part of mine, same doctors but different location. They were fine to see him...just asked her relationship to him. I did make the appointment.

I'd be careful
My DM took dd to the doctors for me and I was reported to HV for failing to access medical care!
The investigation was closed when I explained that I was in labour at the time!

My mum has taken ds to dr a few times when he was young and I was working with no problems.

heronsfly · 22/06/2013 08:29

I've taken my dgs to the docs a couple of times because both parents work its never been a problem.

lola88 · 22/06/2013 09:16

my mum takes DN to the doctors all the time, you could tell them when you ring. I'd be angry If DS was forced to miss an appointment because i'm at work.

Eyesunderarock · 22/06/2013 09:19

My mum did this with my children whenever necessary. Like with their school, I gave both places a letter authorising her to act in loco parentis that they had on file and it was never a problem.

I'm a nanny and have taken all my charges to the drs at some point. I also take them to their hospital appointments, and have even been in a parents stead when a child was having an operation!
All you need to do is contact the drs to say your dm will be taking your child and also include a letter of permission.

I work too Lolo
I was very surprised by reaction of HV and GP tbh
I was asked things like "why do you think DM felt it necessary to take dd to GP"
And" has this happened before"
All very strange
I do take annual leave to take DC to doctors now
The late night surgeries are for working adults only!
My DH wasn't questioned btw
Only asked if was aware dd had been to doctors with DM!

lola88 · 22/06/2013 10:01

That's shocking svrider I wouldn't use my annual leave to take DS to the doctors I would just send my mum or sister with him unless of course it was something very serious.

The world has gone mad it's ok to leave your child with a nursery teacher or childminder you hardly know while you work but have your mother take your child to the doctors and you'll be questioned on it!
