Inappropriate photos taken by my kids

So my kids were recently given digital cameras by their DGF which they were naturally thrilled about. I was happy too seeing them take an interest in photography, and zipping round the house taking pictures of all sorts. So far so good. Then Saturday we go to the school fête, where they both take lots more photos. At one point I'm asked for assistance, and I flick through recent shots, only to find lots of close ups of their bums, and willy, etc, really revolting pics they've taken of each other. I'm not too sure how to handle it, I've already deleted everything on the offending camera - including other photos, I didn't want to trawl through all the horrendous ones. What do I say to them? Is this just normal experimenting and not worth making a fuss of, or should I be reprimanding more than by simply deleting the offending pictures? They're 6 and 8, boy and girl btw. Thoughts please!

My dn at about 8 took action shot photos of herself having a poo ....

If they are just rude shots rather than staged I would just tell them off, tell the, they can't use it unsupervised and tell them that privates are just that.

My DD (5)and her friend took photos of each other's bums. I just explained that it's not the done thing, deleted them and mentioned it to the friend's mother (and we both POSL). Par for the course as far as I'm concerned - sure it's nothing more sinister, although obviously you want them to know it's not on.

Ah children are delightful sometimes, lol.

I'd have a wee chat with them about it not being ok to take photos of body parts that you wouldn't have naked in public and that they really shouldn't be doing it - but I wouldn't punish them or get worked up about it.

At that age I very much doubt it's been anything more than, ooh look, I can take a picture of this hahahahaha, or this, and you could get one of that...

I'd just be very grateful that we live in the age of digital cameras and you're not finding out their choice of subject matter when you go to pick up the developed films from the chemist. Grin

exexpat · 19/06/2013 10:01

I'd say it's pretty normal. Just think yourself lucky that we live in the age of digital cameras, and you didn't find all that when you went to pick up your holiday snaps from Boots...

X-post with NotAnother!

Ah, thank you Mumsnet for the reassurance, i knew i could count on you!
Yes, Notanother and Exexpat, I suppose I should be thankful for small mercies, some to the shots were badly out of focus, but plenty were in grim detail Shock. I didn't lose it with them, just told them that they're photos were revolting and that we didn't really need to see any more. I do feel bad about emptying the whole card instead of deleting just the relevant ones, but still, it's done now, and hopefully it will serve as a reminder.

This has really made me laugh this morning, but has also made me revise my plans to give the DC my old digital camera for unsupervised use.

I can just see them producing a series of poo production photos like QOD's DN and trying to hand it into school as a project. Just thinking about the possibility makes me want to reach for the gin.

QOD · 19/06/2013 10:24

My poor sis hahahahahahhaha .... Innocently flipping thru the camera, flower, cat, button, what, what the, what the fuck, what the fucking hell, etc

tabulahrasa · 19/06/2013 10:30

To be fair, action shots of a poo must take a fair bit of co-ordination...I mean that's quite impressive, I'm not sure I could do that.

Not that I'm going to try of course, but still.

FriskyHenderson · 19/06/2013 10:33

I was at a concert at the weekend and ran out of space on my camera to take more photos, so I went to delete some old photos in the interval. Jeez I wish I hadn't- groups of 20 shots of the same leaf, plenty of selfies, then the bum shots, ear shots (?), only a few willy shots, more mini beast photos, then numerous videos of the kids throwing themselves/each other downstairs and/or climbing up the bannisters.

I am so glad not to be paying for developing all of that.

flipchart · 19/06/2013 10:38

No harm done and it is quite funny!

The novelty of having the camera will die down.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 19/06/2013 10:38

Perfectly normal and don't expect them to grow out of it in a hell of a hurry - some adults can't be trusted Wink

NotAnotherPackedLunch · 19/06/2013 10:42

tabulah The issue of poor coordination while executing the action sequence hadn't even crossed my mind. Yuck.
You really wouldn't want to use the camera after they had tried it.

Belgianchox · 19/06/2013 12:27

Am loving the pragmatic approach of well, hey ho, as long as we don't have to pay for your daftness! I did offer to print them out as souvenirs for them, but they didn't seem so enthusiastic then...

When I was given a camera, I got one first being the eldest, my younger siblings and I had great fun taking pics of each others bottoms as we did moonies. My poor daddy having to collect them from the chemists with me in tow. Ooops!

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 19/06/2013 12:40

Mine took pictures of their willies on their DSIXLs and turned them into pictures with special effects.

I did not know this until we went to visit my Great Aunt and they took their consoles. What are they, they look interesting, she said.

Go on lads, show Auntie what they can do, said I
