Seem to be posting lots at the mo!sorry :)
My dd is 5months and 1 wk and doesnt seem close to either!
From 2months she has had dead strong legs n will happily stand with me holding her hands for ages but doesnt seem to be close to sitting or rolling at all.
She will twist her lower body and turn ever so slighty but thats it.
When in a sitting position she will bend ovr double and put her arms out so im thinking maybe she will start using them like a tripod and learn to balance that way. I get that all bubs are dif,i know i was late doing stuff but I do feel guilty that I dnt do enough tummy time with her and thats why shes not doing it?
Can any mums come reasure me?
Thanks :)

Hi nearly 8m here and only just roller! HTH

Dorisday13 · 18/06/2013 11:21

*rolled silly phone!

ArtemisKelda · 18/06/2013 11:25

DD is 5 months old and can only roll halfway, she gets stuck on her tummy and cries. She can almost sit up if she's supported.

Like yours, she also has strong legs and loves being held so she can stand up and push herself up. Sounds like she's doing fine. She hates tummy time so we don't do it.

My DS started rolling at 15 weeks. Hasn't started sitting yet so cant answer that one.

Pascha · 18/06/2013 18:36

Hi Allchik, not seen you on the postnatal thread for a while. How are you doing?

DS2 is 5m2weeks and can just about flip himself from front to back if he's really really pissed off. Mostly he waggles his arms and legs looking like a beached whale. Sitting sounds about the same as you.

DS1 did his first roll at 6 months and was walking by 11 months. Its all normal.

Flossie82 · 18/06/2013 18:38

Ds rolled once at 4 months, once at 5 m and now at 7 m rolls frequently but only front to back. Sat at 5 m but I think that is pretty early. I think DD first rolled at 5.5 m and sat at 6 m.

You are right, they are all different. Not unusual for a 5 m old to not roll or sit.

lola88 · 18/06/2013 19:39

Ds sat about 5 months but not solid enough for no cushions til over 6 months, he didn't roll til 9 months when he started crawling then walked at 11 months so I don't think the late rolling makes any difference.

DS was never one or tummy time and never liked to lie down flat on either side the only he was about 14 months how he likes to lie on the floor rolling around watching TV

Nicknamefail · 18/06/2013 20:11

Dd rolled at 10 weeks but didn't sit u until 8 months. Neatly 9 months and won't stand like your dc. They all do things at their own paces.

DharmaBumpkin · 18/06/2013 20:15

DD sat at 5 months (proud Mum) but couldn't roll over until 14 months (damn, there goes that pride). Don't stress, they are all so different.

stargirl1701 · 18/06/2013 20:20

Sitting at 4 months. Rolling at 8 months.

SpooMoo · 18/06/2013 20:33

Rolling at 3.5 months, can't remember about sitting. Crawling at 26 weeks/6mo on the dot!

allchik · 22/06/2013 08:18

DD sat at 4 months but I don't remember her ever rolling. She didn't crawl either, but did walk at almost 9 months. TBF she never slept, so she'd probably had the equivalent number of awake hours to a much older child!

Not expecting DS to do the same though, as he actually sleeps!

ColinButterfly · 22/06/2013 21:50

They do it VERY suddenly, there isn't always much of a build up. DN rolled over at four months but couldn't work out rolling back over and over again which upset him. He's 6 months and is sitting up as of this week.

MiamiMe · 22/06/2013 22:07

DD is six months as of this week and has lots of tummy time. Has just started sitting this week unaided. She can roll from her tummy to her back but not the other way.

My nephew is 8 months old and still can't roll. Started sitting unaided at 7 months. It is difficult not o compare but just have to keep reminding yourself all babies are different.

Ethlinn · 22/06/2013 22:20

It is sooo hard not to compare! DS is 5 and half months now, was rolling from his tummy to his back at 11 weeks, he's not a huge fan of tummy time and still nowhere near sitting unaided! He is desperately trying to sit up and getting so frustrated that he can't do it yet. They're all different, that's what I just keep reminding myself haha

Pinebarrens · 22/06/2013 22:34

DD Was sitting at 5.5mo, was cruising round the room at 7mo, rolled once at around 8 months then hardly again, walked at 11months, crawled for the first time the day she walked. she's 4 now and runs, hops, skips and jumps all over the place, is a bright chatty (and cheeky) little girl.

DS rolled at 4 months, sitting at 6.5 mo, is 8 months and almost crawling, rolls all over the place. He has completely different motor skills from his sister at this age.

They're all different and usually all get there in the end!

colleysmill · 22/06/2013 22:41

All are different but "normal" age for rolling is from 5 months and independent sitting is about 7 months.

However my ds rolled early, preferred being on his tummy and learnt to "flip" along the floor from 5 months (getting into all kinds of mischief) and consequently didn't properly sit til 9 months onwards!

NotAQueef · 22/06/2013 22:43

Ds sat at 21 weeks, and rolled around 25 weeks, but not reliably and meaningfully rolled (ie moving around) 'til around 8 months

melliebobs · 22/06/2013 22:44

Dd is 15 months n has rolled about twice cos she HATES being in her front so she just doesn't do it. Think that was around the 6 month mark n has as good as never happened since. And she started sitting unaided at 7.5-8 months

She is now 15 months and can't stand crawl or walk. Lazy baby much?!

DespicableYou · 22/06/2013 22:46

First rolled really late - about 10 months!

Second rolled around in her cot like a jumping bean from about 3/4 months, which completely freaked me out as I really didn't think that babies that young could wiggle around so much.

My oldest was a very cautious baby, and is a cautious child still. But once she gains confidence she does very well. She went through rolling, to crawling, to pulling up, to cruising then walking within a couple of months.

My second did stuff earlier but the stages lasted longer, IYSWIM?

First walked at 14 months, second walked at 13 months.

DespicableYou · 22/06/2013 22:47

Oh, sitting, first could sit unaided at about 5.5 months.

Not sure about the 2nd, possibly slightly later, but around 6 months.

twinklyfingers · 23/06/2013 20:13

Dd first rolled at 8 weeks but only repeated this occasionally until she was 5mo when she went crazy rolling. She could cover a great distance through rolling alone. She much preferred rolling to sitting so didn't do that well until she was 6mo, whereas a lot of her friends could sit earlier but are not rolling. She is now 7mo and is commando crawling!

ChazDingle · 23/06/2013 21:21

DS now 3.1 years never really rolled, except by accident a few times. HV said its not a milestone and some babies never roll. Obviously he can roll now!! He also was never really a sitting baby, i'm not sure if he couldn't or just didn't want to, if you tried to sit him he just used to move forward so he was lying on his tummy. He crawled around 7 months and walked at 14 months so bang on average with those.

GingaNinja · 23/06/2013 21:28

DD sat at approx. 6mo but has never rolled (except in her sleep).

Wonder Woman (current obsession) had her 4th birthday 2 weeks ago. Grin

Don't worry, it'll happen when it happens. And if they can move you need to start moving EVERYTHING out of reach!
