my DT are 4
I would love to share with them the films of my childhood, such as labyrinth, goonies, newsboys, chitty chitty bang bang etc but think they may go over their head and the DT not understand the film

what age did your children watch your well loved films and what are they?

My 4 year olds have watched most of those. DD loves the musicals Mary Poppins especially. DS was engrossed in the goonies when my older ones were watching it he got a little scared at some points but wouldn't take his eyes off it.
The best one was recently me and hubby put Flight of the navigator on and they both sat through it mesmerized :)

I love flight of the navigator! Grin

Goonies is a 12, my DS is 10 and just watched it.

Save them for when they are older and you can enjoy them together. I think it would be disappointing for you to watch them now if they weren't interested.

Mine still haven't seen Chitty Chitty because I have never liked The Childcatcher Blush

DD, aged 3, loves The Labyrinth! It's probably a bit unsuitable in places David Bowie's tights but at least it's not violent, and most importantly it's a great film! If the TV's on, I need it to be something I can enjoy too. So no Cbeebies, we used to put it on in the mornings but DD doesn't like it now and always asks for one of her DVDs. She has no problems concentrating on a whole film and understanding the plot (with my input where necessary).

Mine are quite into James Bond (6 and 8). I know there is quite a lot of unsuitable stuff there, but on balance I think they are able to cope with it. I refused to take them to see Skyfall in the cinema, but they have seen it on DVD, and they love it - do they understand everything? Almost certainly not, but they do follow the overall story. And this has perhaps lead to other things - DS1 is into his history and wants to watch Dan Snow's D Day programme. That is advised for 16+, but we watched it together and he found it fascinating.

DS2 loves Mary Poppins, or did when he was 4. Neither are into Star Wars, but both love Indianna Jones.

we sat and watched Mary Poppins with DT last night, they loved it! some plot and the clothes needed explaining, they thought they were wedding clothes, but kept them quiet for hours

now for labyrinth and chitty Grin
