Hi all.

My 17 month old DS was just playing, lost his balance and hit his head on the leg of the table. It's come up in a bump and bruise straight away on his forehead. I have put an ice pack on it briefly to deal with the swelling but am now worrying about concussion. Btw I may very well be overreacting here!!!! PFB!!!

He is eating his dinner happily and seems fine at the moment. Just wondering if there is anything I should be looking out for. His bedtime is at 8pm so have a little while to keep an eye on him.

Congratulations on getting to 17 months before the first nasty bump! Grin Seriously, if he's playing happily I wouldn't worry, but if he shows signs of excessive lethargy, unresponsiveness or vomiting take him down to A&E for a checkup.

He'll almost certainly be fine. :)

Blimey how did you manage to get this far without a big bump before!

Vomitting, excessive sleepiness (sleeping is fine so long as he rouses if you try to wake him), there are others but it's been a long day. Hopefully a more useful person will be a long soon/beat me to it.

Don't get me wrong he has taken a fair few tumbles in his time and has had a number of bruises on his little forehead before. This fall was just a bit more spectacular than the others hence the extra concern!

Foreheads are pretty tough, they're an area dedsgned to take an impact if that makes sense. A more risky area to hit is the sides of the head especially around the ear, the skull is thinner there.
