Quick blw lunches 9 mth old?

Hi all! Just interested in what other people do - blw, v adventurous baby, eats anything, but need some lunches that are v quick to make since right now I need to keep an eye on her pretty constantly given her new furniture scaling trends.

She can easily eat small things like rice and quinoa etc so has good hand grip and pincer grip. She likes everything (but especially climbing furniture). Lunches often fruit, cheese (though of course cautious re sodium), steamed veg.

Peanut butter on toast? (Assuming no allergies)

Hummous and pitta with a few cut up cherry tomatoes on the side and fruit for pudding. My DS loves the caramelised onion hummous that tesco sell.

Couscous (just soak in boiling water for 5-10 mins) with some steamed veg or dried fruit chopped into it? Sandwiches? If me and DH had eaten late the previous day I often saved a portion of our meal for DS to eat the following day, would that work for you?

Omelette. Little pan, 1 egg, takes just a few minutes to cook then just cut into strips. You can put veg, mushrooms, cheese etc in to make it a bit more exciting. Ds1 loved it when weaning.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 12/06/2013 06:33

I make mashed stuff (casseroles, vegetable and bean mixes etc), freeze it in cubes a la traditional weaning and then serve it warmed up on rice cakes or toast. Goes down a storm, takes seconds and means she gets a really varied diet.

My DD1 loved crusty toast with cream cheese.

What about baked macaroni and cheese? Ham? (both a bit salty so need to be careful)

DD1 loved beetroot (buy it precooked and slice into wedges), avocado and roasted sweet potato.

Sharon brilliant list. Thank you. And Krypton - clever! Could totally do ommelette. Will do that today with steamed broccoli and cheese filling.

Fruitsalad - clever cube idea there! What age dud it start not being enough, and do you hear in a microwave? (We don't have one but I guess could heat in a pan w warm water or something).

Teapot - v clever ideas. Yeah, the whole salt thing I find tricky - seems so easy to get to the max. But those tips are helpful and definitely avocado.

Sharon - re cucumber fingers cast aside - heh, when pregnant I developed a passionate and uncharacteristic aversion to cucumber. I wonder if that was dd's tasted coming through. Ishould test this on dd :)

She's nearly 7no now and will eat 4 cubes on two big rice cakes or little slices of toast. I did the same with Dd1 though for ages. Might be a pain without a microwave though. Mashed stuff on toast is great for actually getting stuff into them though - avocado mashed with cream cheese is good, or I make a kind of spread with mashed cannelini beans, creme fraiche and herbs.

I really like this book [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Finger-Food-Babies-Toddlers-nutritious/dp/0091889510]]
