I am starting a Law degree soon - where is your study space?

I have officially enrolled with the open university to do a law degree! I am beyond nervous, but also determined to put my all into it and do the best I possibly can.

One thing that I would really like to get sorted before I start my access module in October, is where to have my study space.

I am quite lucky in the respect that I have a few choices - the kitchen, the dining room or my bedroom...

I am veering away from the bedroom idea, as quite frankly I have other things to be getting on with in there (like sleep Wink) so i guess its between the dining room and kitchen.

Where do you have your study space? Oh and if anyone has done the Law degree or is doing it, any advice would be very welcome!

It looks great, I'm itching to get started too, I haven't studied since college 15 years ago so definitely needed to start off with the access course.

I'm a a second year law student, I'm at university so can use their facilities, library, I.t rooms...etc but I also do a lot of work and reading at home. I always find it best to have one primary study space at home, usually on my dinning room table AND also have a second study space where I go for a few hours at a time. (a change of scenery definitely increases how long I can study for)

Try and place yourself away from distractions (mainly tv and fridge) and have an additional space away from your study where you can spend your study breaks, it's nice to keep work and play separate.

Hope this helps and best of luck!!

Have you got the results of your first TMA back yet? Got mine today

tanyatwo · 04/01/2014 00:17

MY daughter and I live in a one bedroom housing association flat and my study space is the dining area of a tiny lounge, where I have my laptop, printer, scanner and some paperwork. There are books and paperwork everywhere though. The front room looks a state since I started my course. When my daughter is awake and I have to study, like today, I put Peppa Pig on Youtube and sit on the sofa. It's no way to live, but I'm sure your house is bigger and better than my home. Good luck with the course.

Hi Vito I finally got my TMA results on 9th Jan?! I went a bit crazy worrying about it over Christmas, but was really pleased when i finally got the results.

Was then so behind but got nearly all of block two done today, now there is TMA 2 to worry about!

How are you finding it? I have to admit i can't wait to get to the actual law degree...

Oh wow im lucky to have found this thread, im repeating the first year of my law llb as I had to stop due to falling pregnant with my DD. I dont have a study space, as im so disorganised, but have just ordered a desk and accessories to sort one out. I work mainly from home, but sometimes enjoy the peace of the library. Im so pleased there are some mature law students out there, its so full on, so it will be nice to find people to share it with x

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 16/01/2014 16:36

Hi fruity :) I'm doing my access module atm and have put my desk in the dining room as I can shut people off then. Cant wait to get going with proper law degree now though. Are you doing it through the ou?

Hi Tickle
I did the access - loved it. I did mine at college two and a half days a week, then went to uni from there, and did a law module on it. Very good prep for uni, as a lot of what was covered in the first term at uni we had done on the access. I'm at Warwick uni doing my law degree, and its full time, with three kids (one five months) and kidney disease so it is pretty full on but I love it. I'm a wee bit older than some of the other students, but I have started a group for mature students, and just make the other students talk to me anyway, they don't have a choice lol. Best book for people starting law is 'letters to a law student' absolutely brilliant, still use mine for advice now. I have made a little space upstairs in my room as its the only place big enough and distraction free. I am now the proud owner of a desk, and shelves for books and folders. Only took me this long to get it sorted. How are you finding the access, it took a bit of adjusting for me to get used to the work and routine, but it is brilliant for preparing you for uni. xx
