If your tall, slim 3-4 year old boy wears trousers which stay up...

...please, please, please tell me what he wears. The exact trousers.

I have tried tie waists, adjustable waists, a size smaller (absolutely no good), a size bigger with adjustable waist pulled right in. I've tried everything on him over the last 2 years from 2 for 7 quid joggers to gap/boden... even a pair of DKNY skinnies.

We've had this problem since he stopped wearing the nappy/vest combo. He has long legs and very slim hips and his trousers sit permanently below his bum. I'm about 12 months beyond seeing the funny side now, I'm sick of comments about it and feeling like I'm not dressing my boy properly.

Any advice would be VERY gratefully received. I've even asked the staff at his nursery and they can't think of any other ideas. It's driving me crazy.

A Snake Belt? Snake Belt

EyeoftheStorm · 05/06/2013 21:30

Zara skinnies or straight leg - jeans, chinos etc.

DS2 (4) is reaping the rewards of the trial and error buying for DS1 (9 who we call Slim Jim)

GetYourSocksOff · 05/06/2013 21:33

Thanks blue, we have a couple of belts for him but not a snake belt, I've just ordered one from your link.

Eyeofthestorm, I'm off to check out Zara now....

I found summer and shorts were my friend. DS1 (7) has now moved up to age 3-4 shorts. I get the boardy type ones so they don't look oddly short and they actually fit round the waist.

Camargue · 05/06/2013 21:38

Verbaudet - anything that is slim fit. Or polarn o pyret leggings or slim fit trousers with stretch in. Boden new slim cut cargos/cords are also ok but the cargos are really crap quality and too long; everything else boden is hopeless waist-wise. Anything French is ok I found.

GetYourSocksOff · 05/06/2013 21:38

WoTmania do you get them from anywhere in particular?

PourquoiPas · 05/06/2013 21:38

My DS is long and slim and the best trousers I found were the Boden star patch trousers (have an elasticated top and are very long) and some jeans from H&M again with an elasticated waist.

PourquoiPas · 05/06/2013 21:39

The boden cords and vertbaudet slim fit jeans fit him well, but still fall down as he has no bum!

GetYourSocksOff · 05/06/2013 21:56

Camargue I've ordered a pair of trousers from PoP - I've not used them before.

Off to bed now but will come back and follow up the other suggestions tomorrow - thanks everyone. Thanks

My Ds is tall and slim, the best trousers I've found are primark especially the slim fit jeans, the skinny chinos were a disaster, he looked like a baby jockey.

WoTmania · 06/06/2013 16:10

No, although M&S usually have some in - I just made sure they were long enough not to be indecent as he has ridiculously long legs!

xmarksaspot · 06/06/2013 16:14

H&M skinny jeans are pretty slim wasted

harryhausen · 06/06/2013 16:25

I feel your pain. My ds (6) is still wearing shorts aged 3.

I've occasionally found the odd skinny chinos in Next....he's just about fitting his m&s school trousers now, and their getting too shortConfused

I have the opposite problem with dd. She's nearly 9 and has a very womanly curve to her figure already. To get her knickers that actually fit over her bum cheeks she's into age 10/11 at least. Trousers all have to be age 10 or over. They seem to cut these girls clothes to fit girls with boys figuresConfused

dufflefluffle · 06/06/2013 16:43

Elasticated waist only. I have the best pair from Gymboree but they are at least two years old. Excellent fit though. Next best is a pair from Carters - elasticated waist too. I find Zara awkward fitting but he also has Gap tracksuit bottoms that stay up well too.

mummy2benji · 06/06/2013 20:12

www.next.co.uk/x512796s9#137897x51 These fit my tall, skinny 4.5yo ds1 (he wears size 3-4y).

Otherwise Marks and Spencer are the only make that fit him as most of their trousers have adjustable waists. I have to hold them up next to him to see if they would fall off him or if we might get lucky! Hate all those joggers in other shops which have fake 'draw-strings'!

Minetired · 06/06/2013 22:08

I've got the same problem with my 5yr old DS. H&M skinny jeans work & we got chinos there as well.
I also found skinny jeans in Matalan. All came with elasticated waists.
Good Luck!!

savoirfaire · 07/06/2013 21:38

Verbaudet best jeans we've found, but we also have the builder's bum problem. He did have a great pair of cords from Mothercare (randomly) a while back, but haven't seen them again.

OldBeanbagz · 07/06/2013 21:41

H&M jeans for us.

DS is super skinny too and wearing the same waist size shorts he started school in 5 years ago!

Tailtwister · 07/06/2013 21:43

DS1 is very skinny and I've always used trousers with internal waist adjusters. PoP does them (I see you already know about them) and Frugi does too. The PoP skinny jeans fit DS very well and come in some nice colours.

rockybalboa · 07/06/2013 21:51

Slim fit is the way forward. H&M do some excellent slim fitting stuff.

Foosyerdoos · 07/06/2013 21:55

I find Primark is good for my skinny 6 year old ds, especially the joggers. I get him th 7/8 as he is tall. A lot of the trousers that are ok for the length are too big on the waist.
I also got some Next elasticy waste camo ones that were a good fit.

SoftSheen · 07/06/2013 22:05

My DD (2.3) is very tall with a small waist, and I find that the Boden skinny jeans fit her quite well, in a size up (3 yo) but with the waist elastic pulled very tight.

My brother was extremely tall and skinny as a toddler (and later), and eventually my mother found the only solution that worked... braces!

Another idea would be to just put him in dungarees instead.

GetYourSocksOff · 09/06/2013 21:20

Thanks so much for the replies.

To update..!!

The PoP trousers are the best we've had yet by a long way. DS is nearly 4 so I bought the 4-5 trousers and pulled them right in at the waist and they've actually got the length he needs in the leg. They do slip a little but it's nowhere near as bad so some success already!

softsheen we tried to find dungarees but it's tricky for this age and he's a wee and run kind of guy so it would make toilet stops more of a pain! Braces... I'm not sure I can do it to him Grin

savoirfaire we also had a random good pair from mothercare, but he's growing out of them and haven't managed to find anything similar.

Carters and gymboree are two more I've never shopped with so will go and have a look at their sites next, thanks dufflefluffle .

Slim fit in itself isn't really working for DS, in fact the PoP ones I bought were these . Hmm just visited the site to get the link and there are new trousers listed since last week.... might have to buy more........

Thanks again everyone Grin

Can you get braces for children? Just a thought!

forevergreek · 09/06/2013 21:30

Gap. All boys trousers come with adjustable elastic belt inside
