Babies, sleep and pooing!

Just wondering if you know your baby has pooed whilst sleeping do you change them and risk waking them?

I've just heard DD poo (she's a newborn, so makes the squelch noise when pooing Grin ) and I'm debating changing her, as I'll wake her up.

What do you do?

I'd always change a dirty poo nappy even if waking her. It can give horrible skin breakdown... I'd leave a wet nappy as long as not soaked through

Yes, of course you have to change a poo! Would you like to sleep in your own shit?

I always do so that he doesn't get a sore bottom, congratulations on your new baby Grin

I used to slap on a load of barrier cream be ause I couldn't always change them eg if in the car and I didn't realise. But if I knew, I'd change. You get the hang of doing it quickly!

Is this serious???? Of course you change them !!!

rockingbackandforth · 05/06/2013 11:31

Wow some people are really supportive eh

Yes, change the dirty nappies, leave the (not-too-sopping) wet ones. After a few weeks they generally stop pooing at night anyway, don't worry!

ThePippy · 06/06/2013 13:56

In my experience the only way I found out if my baby had poo'ed in the night was because they had woken up and cried out, so clearly there was no issue of waking them to change them as they were already awake and demanding attention. I certainly didn't pop into their room every half hour to check if they had poo'ed or not, so from 2 months old when they were in their own rooms if they poo'ed and didn't cry then yes they would have stayed in that nappy until the next time they woke crying. I did however put enough sudocrem on them for them to do a cross channel swim, so I never had any issues.

If I know, I change but let's face it we're not always going to know are we? So the odd missed poo isn't going to be a disaster.

DD is 14 weeks and still does the odd poo in the night (like last night, grr) - but usually she doesn't cry and we don't find it til morning. Her arse is fine Grin
