toddler dropping naps

So my question is when did your toddler start to go without naps and did they just stop or was it a slow change?

DS seems to be getting ready to drop a nap some days he will sleep in the morning other days he goes until late afternoon before finally crashing out, today he was sitting up in his buggy on the school run and finally fell asleep sitting bolt upright, but sleeping later I need to wake him after 20/30 mins of he's up til 9pm which is no good because on work days he needs to be up at 7am so is shattered.

Some people are saying to keep him up all day but come 4 o'clock he's just a shattered mess and I'd need to stay in/be home about 3 because he falls asleep in the buggy/car. I don't know if I should keep him up or just let him asleep later and wake him up, he was a terrible sleeper until about 4 months ago I spent a year trying to get him to sleep or keep him sleeping so now waking him from naps feels wrong.

help :(

yes, it is a gradual change, but age can very greatly, DS1 and DS2 stopped completely at 2 years and 9 months , after a good 3 months struggling with skipping naps or shorter naps.

DS3 was almost 5 when he started school and had a nap as soon as he got home for pretty much the whole of reception year!

DS5 has been doing "the dance for months now", so I ket him skip at times, but it is hit or miss.
last week he skipped 3 naps, was awful in the evenings, then on Thursday he fell asleep at 10am and slept for 4.5 hours!

this week he had a few hours sleep every day.

my advice is to go with the flow, I'd rather mine had a nap at 4pm for 30 mins or 1 hour, then kept awake but bawl till bedtime!

We have been in this last nap drop for months, we changed him from his cot to a big boy bed at 2yrs so we could have the cot for new baby. When he realised he could just get out of his bed. His afternoon nap stopped. I spent 6 weeks putting him back in his bed but in the end it was futile. Since then we have picked him up at nursery at 1pm we then go for an long drive home were he falls asleep in the car. I then return home leave him sleeping on the drive for anything from 60-90mins. On days like today were I couldn't be bothered to do the drive. He passed out on the sofa at 3.30pm until 5. I've tried waking him in the past but he's like a corpse he won't budge. He was up until 9pm tonight because of the late nap So I know he's not ready to drop his nap. So il continue like we are. It drives me mad. I have no advice for you just a quick message to say your not alone. Hope you crack it faster than I have x

Thanks

Today was a work day and after not going to sleep until almost 9pm and getting woke at 10 to 7 he was a total grump, I was manic by the time I got to work and i'm pretty sure the childminder wasn't to chuffed at me asking her to let him walk everwhere to tire him out but hey ho :( Hope it doesn't take to long for him to sort this out
