Help, which formula to use?

Can anyone help? I started my nb on aptimal and then changed to cow and Gate both from birth formulas and no difference in reflux. I finished the cow and gate and started da aptimal again cos I'd an extra box of it bought but I think he's worse since I went bac to it. He was pucking before but is throwing up now at every feed and for a while after. Has any one noticed this wit aptimal ? He's in terrible pain with reflux cries wit pain after every feed it's terrible. And can't settle or sleep much between feeds which are every 3 hrs. Has anyone heard of nanny goats milk or that its too rich to digest ? I don't know what to do next besides go to doc for drugs for him he's a mt old now and awful to see him in pain all the time.

I would just go to the doctors. I don't have any experience of reflux though only what I've read on here

have you tried any of the comfort or anti-reflux milks? You should probably see your gp as reflux meds may be prescribed too. Goats formula isnt approved in the UK for infant feeding.

sma do a reflux milk in the purple tin.

it did help my dd, but was a pain to make, maybe your hv or gp can help.

definitely see a doctor and/or health visitor. It may be that he needs comfort or stay down milk, or he might be allergic to cow's milk protein and need a specialist formula. You need a proper diagnosis.

Nanny care Goat milk formula is easy digest, but you can use it if your baby is more than six months old. You can get other light formulas from the Chemist.

Aptamil and cow and gate are the same, just packaged and marketed differently. I would try an anti reflux milk.

When dd was on formula we switched from Aptimil to Hipp Organic first milk and she did seem to prefer it. Are you using the Gaviscon sachets in the bottle? these also really helped dd.

Please go to your GP. Reflux can have nothing to do with milk as it is a weakness in the muscle at the top of the stomach. It can be hard to distinguish between cows milk protein intolerance and reflux or an actual allergy. Your doctor is the best place to start. There are comfort or anti reflux versions of some milks which are thicker to stay down more, but if reflux is very bad, then these are largely ineffective and meds are neccesary along with all sorts of positioning of baby, ie upright after every feed for 30 mins, proping up cot safely etc. If its a cows milk issue then you can be prescribed proper lactose free or part digested milk on prescription. Please go to your doctor, when people talk about meds for reflux they're only really talking about baby antacids, which will make baby feel much better and are mild and safe for them. Get your GP to refer you on to a paediatrician who specialises in reflux, they will also deal with allergy testing if needs be.

Nobody is going to recommend anything other than formula or breast milk before 6 months tbh especially if it isn't cler if it's an intolerance or relux weakness.

I would also go to your GP and ask for some medication (and also for intolerance testing). In the meantime try an anti reflux formula. IME (and over the last 6 months I've tried pretty much every formula in order to try and combat DS's reflux) the cow and gate and aptimel ones are the best, although they are only available in Boots which can be a pain. My DS did not get on with Sma staydown but that is widely available. Unfortunately all anti reflux formulas are a bit of a faff to prepare but you do get used to it. Good luck.

IMHO formular makes no difference. You need medication from GP to stop the muscle being so sensitive. My twins were fantastic pukers, being able to hurl over a double bed and not touch it.
We had hipp organic for our 2 as it was widely available at the local shops within walking distance.

I've just started with cow and gate anti reflux milk only since last nit so too early yet to see a change even though he's very bad today and yester still no sleep from 3am onwards cries all between feeds wit pain. Going to a cranialoestopath in the morning I took him on fri and going bac to see if a second go might help him. I've a doctors apt for next wk and it's his 6 wk check up by then too so I will check him out wit her and see can she refer me to a paediatrician to help him. :-)
