rear-facing prams

At mo have a bog-standard forward-facing Mothercare pram for DS, but really regret not getting a rear-facing.

We are thinking about having no.2 when DS is about 2.

Is there such a thing as a rear facing tandem/double buggy?

yes there is, i cant do links (sorry) but if you look on bebe confort website its called the Elios and its for two children of different ages, only thing is I'm not sure if its available in the uk yet oh and the site is abit finiky Grin I have the bebe confort loola which is both forward and rear facing I love being able to see dd (we have a laugh and make faces at each other)

Just found bebeconfort website - you're right about it being finicky!

Amazing product tho - just what I'm looking for.

However, can't find anything about price.

What sort of price range are these in?

Cheers! :)

emmaljunga with toddler seat?
Lots on ebay, will NEVER break, and loads of space for shopping.
Can use them either way round.

mamas and papas can be either rear or forward facing. We used this with a buggy board.

it was nice to have the option to have them forward facing on occassions, for a change of view for them.

emmaljunga twin pram - I have \link{http://www.emmaljunga.com/product.asp?bvid=8&artnr=28607\this} and love it. It is harder to push when rear facing tho.

Do you want both children to face you, or just the new baby? Not that ds will be fed up of looking at you by then, but he may be more eager to get in / out, look at stuff around him etc, and if you're happy to buy a separate carrycot for dc2 (they almost always fit on facing rearwards) you'll be able to consider pushchairs whose seats only face forward.

There's a thread \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1012&threadid=171749&stamp=060509163059\here} on Products at the moment with a couple of possible solutions - particularly the \link{http://www.inglesina.com/en/products/details.php?sectionid=19&itemid=183&pathtype=sectiontree\Inglesina Domino}, which looks fab but is [gulp] £600. The \link{http://www.ekmpowershop3.com/ekmps/shops/jusonneuk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=78\Bebconfort twin} is more sensibly priced at £400 ish and is light and folds pretty small.
Jané (the expensive three-wheeler people) also do a tandem, the \link{http://www.jane.es/construye/index.php?fuseaction=fitxa&tipo=1&id_producte=122&categoria=\Twin Two}, whose carrycot can face you, but the pushchair seats seem to only fix on facing forward. They also do the \link{http://www.jane.es/construye/index.php?fuseaction=fitxa&tipo=1&id_producte=51&categoria=#box2\Super Twin} (better pic \link{http://www.bayon.es/cart.php?action=ampliar&id=737\here}) which looks frankly weird.

Am much enamoured with the bebeconfort twin at the moment.

Was wondering how much use we'd get out of this if we bought it for a newborn/2year old.

Excuse my ignorance Blush, but roughly how old are children before they don't need a pushchair any more?!

Piano - I nearly bought the bebe confort 4 years ago when it was £800 from ireland and changed my mind at the last minute, anyway it looks fantastic for a newborn and a small toddler but you need air tyres imo as the effort of pushing the two children when they are 6 months and 2.5 or three is enormous.
If you don't need the car seat or walk lots, the Bertini twin or Emmaljunga are fantastic. The mountain buggy urban is great too but expensive (i wish i'd had that first time around).

pianomummy · 13/05/2006 15:26

thanks for advice.

when do you stop putting toddlers in pushchairs - roughly? Aged 4/5? I have absolutely NO idea!

also, do buggyboards work with a single rear-facing pram/pushchair?

sorry for more questions! but there's nothing like advice from the horse's mouth, so to speak!

Mine were done with prams and buggyboards by 4 years, my nearly 6 year old would like to hop back in but it's not an option so she doesn't.

Kelly1978 · 14/05/2006 00:07

very much depends on the child, usually anywhere between 3 and 5 I would say. My ds was born on dd's second bday. WE had a double for 6 months, then a three wheeler and buggyboard for a few months after that. I never fancied putting a buggyboard on a rear facing pram, as the child would be at eye level with the baby! In theory it should work tho, and the child could hold on to the bumper bar.

pooka · 14/05/2006 07:24

I have a bugaboo cameleon with a wheeled board. Love it - ds faces me and dd, or can be turned to face away. But dd was 2 and a half when I got it. Had a standard tandem initially which was hell to push and manoeuvre so the bugaboo is blissful in comparison. Pricey though (but I sold existing prams/pushchairs to go towards the cost Blush)

Clayhead · 14/05/2006 07:55

I used a double buggy for a while (dd was 20 months when ds was born) then moved onto a Mamas and Papas with buggy board, which I did use rear facing, no problems with baby and toddler being face to face! In fact, it was lovely that the three of us were all able to 'chat'. After that died a death I got a Loola which I now use for ds (2). dd walks most of the time now, if she needs a rest she gets in the pushchair and ds walks for a bit!

As far as when they don't need a buggy anymore, depends on the child and your circumstances. For exaplme, if you drive or need to walk everywhere. I walk several miles a day so don't see ds being able to manage that until he is 4 or 5. HTH.
