baby waking all the time from 2am onwards

Hello,
My baby goes out like a light at 7-7.30pm every day and won't be kept up. Sleeps soundly til about 2am and then won't really every resettle. She sleeps on an off but not deeply and makes louder noises than just the usual grunts.

I end up bringing her in and out of our bed. She eats tonnes and then is very full/restful in the morning and lunch time, napping a lot.

What can I do? I am exhausted! Should I force her to stay up later in the evening to try and push it all back? We have just started her on a bit of food, at 5 months, but she's not always hungry when she wakes up.

Help me mumsnetters! It's all me getting up as she is BF, so no rest from it.

No help but I'm right there with you. Except mine down at 7ish and up at half 9, midnight and every hour after that

DD went through something similar between about six and eight months, having previously slept very well. The midwife's said her need for food (esp. solids) was growing and it was a matter of bringing her hunger into line with a daytime/nighttime rhythm. I seem to remember that her suggestion was to ensure DD had solids as well as milk towards the end of the day (to ensure she went to bed sated) and then to wake her briefly at 11pm and top her up with milk to get her to sleep through until about 6am. Once this was working we were then gradually able to drop the 11pm feed.

Hope that's of some help. FWIW you have my absolute sympathies. I remember it as being probably the most exhausting time we ever had with her.

Maybe too cold?

Same problem here..

Sorry - but for a breastfed 5 month old this is completely normal. Honestly - it will pass, it is exhausting, but it is normal. It's not caused by anything other than your child doing exactly what they should be doing.

Ok v useful. redqueen If she would go from 11pm to 6am I would literally have a street festival. I am exhausted, spotty, me and DH starting to argue etc. No amount of coffee will fix it!

7 till 2 without any wake ups is bloody brilliant at 5 months old. Unfortunately they only do one decent stretch per night and you don't get to choose the time window! Some people have some success with dreamfeeding but it never worked for me. My best advice to you is to temporarily go to bed earlier until she sleeps through longer.
forcing her to stay up later will just lead to a grumpy baby so I wouldn't do that.

Go to bed at 9 so you have 5 hours sleep i used to go to sllep then even 7 sometimes for an early night, also make sure you don't feed her to much at night i got stuck in a cycle of feeding to sleep constantly, ds needing to be fed to sleep but waking with an upset tummy from being full and prob his digestive system constantly running!

I do understand how hard it is DS is 13mo and slept his first full night about a month ago he's done 4 full nights mostly only wakes once and a bad nights 3 wakings, until 11mo he woke between 2 and 9 times a night the usual would be 3/4. I tried everything but nothing helped until i night weaned him BUT i tried to night wean him at 9mo and it didn't work, you also can not night wean before 6mo and on 3 full meals a day plus milk and snacks.

Eventually she will sleep and if not she will get to 18 and you can kick her out :)
