20 month old and 5 month old - where to go?

I have a 20 month old and a 5 month old. I'm finding it hard to get out and about on my own as the toddler needs constant attention or looking out for but I can't do that as the baby needs me too.

I have no family close and no friends with children. Also area is quite rural and not a lot going on.

I'm not one for shopping centres etc but, for example I can't go swimming obviously or even to a farm or anything as the toddler just wants to walk but I have to carry the baby too.

I just wondered what you did really?

Are there any playgroups near to you or even an nct group? Does your swimming pool do aquatots? Think you could manage two if you put dc2 in one of those inflatable seats. Our pool has a playpen and a changing table in the changing rooms too.

I'd check out your library too, some have story time or music time and how far away is your children's centre?

Can you find a local gym or soft play with a baby sensory area? I remember going to one or two of those when DC2 was around that age and he loved it, sitting and looking at the lights. Meanwhile DC1 could go nuts in a safe environment.

Why not put baby in the buggy? It was at around this age I started putting my youngest in the pushchair - she didn't like lying flat but was happier once I could sit her up. It made life a lot easier!

get a wrist strap for toddler?

ceeveebee · 20/03/2013 23:36

Its a bit pricey but we go to Gymboree with our twins, there are classes for families with 2 or more children suitable from 6 months to 3 years, I see a lot of families with a toddler and a baby there.
Also a story telling place or a music class could be good - go to one suitable for the older DC and the younger one will just enjoy watching/listening to the children singing

Would toddler fancy a buggyboard for the back of the pushchair? We got one about 2 weeks ago and its revolutionised our lives! Baby in pram, ds can walk and get on the buggyboard if tired.
Have you a childrens centre near you? Google childrens centre and the name of your closest town. They have activities for families with under fives- usually all free.
