My 4 month dd hates the car and screams throughout, despite attempts with mobiles, music to entertain him. Anyway, on Friday he was suddenly quiet in the car - so unusual I turned around to check he was alright and went and drove straight into an ambulance ahead Shock Lots of damage and v. expensive mistake. Fortunately no-one was hurt. Does anyone have any advice for driving with a baby?

I've got a mirror that you put on to the headrest of the seat that the rear facing car seat is on, means you only have to look in the rear view mirror and you can see what they are doing. Also means they can see you.

Mine came from Pailton baby farm near leicestershire but think mothercare or similiar would do it too. Will have a look and try and link.

thanks for the advice on the mirror. Will definately buy one. Just found out that my insurance premium is going to rise by over £500 after the incident on Friday. Not happy at all...

That seems a lot. Can you shop around a bit the difference between companies can be huge.

the mirror has worked well for us also stopped ds from poking dd when i wasn't looking!

It's the most distracting thing ever. Saw this poll that's saying passengers are the most distracting thing, but doesn't take into account babies and kids! www.iam.org.uk/iam_polls/

i always has my lo's in the front beside me so i could see them,
my dd suffered horrendous car sickness, and i had to be able to see if she was sick so i could stop and sort her our before she choked,
dc3 went in the back, but my oldest is 5yo so helped out if lo was sick etc,and he usually slept lol.

I've got a frog toy that fixes to the back seat so I can see ehr in the rear view mirror.

DD was like this, hysterical from the start to end of all car journies. She grew out of it at around 6 months. that was when we got her into a routine and I tended to double up driving to activities with nap times. the car seat is now one of her favourite places to sleep.

i posted a similar post to yours a few months ago, and got a number of sympathetic respones that others had this problem but their DCs had grown out of it.

It's very likely to get much better quite soon.

Sorry to hear about your accident but glad your wallet was the only thing hurt.

Katy
