I'm just wondering is there a right age where it is ok to take a bath with your little one ? My dd is 6 weeks old and I have heard about parents taking their baby for a bath with them but not sure when this is ok ?
Please let me know your thoughts or if you do this yourself , I'm a 1st time mom so no clue on what's ok when it comes to this
Many thanks Smile

DD was about 6 months when we did but, in retrospect, I wish I'd done it earlier. It is much easier Grin I plan to bath share from the start if we have another.

MortifiedAdams · 17/03/2013 18:14

You can start now! I only took dd in the bath with me if dh was there to bring her in and take her out as I couldnt quite coordinate getting in and out while holding her.

Flasks · 17/03/2013 18:22

Aww brilliant ! I was hoping ppl would say it would be ok a I thought it would be a good bonding experience Smile

Bf support often encourages feeding in the bath too if you bf.

I did it from ~2 weeks as I couldn't carry the baby bath on my own when DP went back to work, plus it's really fun! They do the startle reflex thing in the water and look like little ballet dancers. Smile

VodkaJelly · 17/03/2013 18:35

My DD (now 10 weeks old) was a week old when I shared a bath with her. DP was on hand to lift her in and out of the bath. I still get in with her now and again and DP has shared a few baths with her too.

I love it, their soft skin next to yours.

Littlepaleale · 17/03/2013 18:37

We did from about 6 weeks and both loved it. Enjoy!

brettgirl2 · 17/03/2013 20:23

The only problem is that you cant have the water too hot imo.

We do the same as Weissdorn. When DH lifts her off me, he puts her on one of those plastic bath supports on the floor, on which he's spread her cuddly bath robe - makes it easy to wrap her up without dropping her!

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 17/03/2013 21:52

Right from the start, its lovely and also a good time for baby's dad to have skin to skin too. With dd1 we never bothered with a bath seat, one of us always got in with her while the other readied the warm towels and did the hair washing etc. When dd2 arrived we didn't have as many spare hands so I use a bath seat with a towel on to put her in when I need to get in or out if DH isn't about.

rrreow · 18/03/2013 17:46

We did it right from the start once the stump from his belly button had come off. I loved breast feeding him in the bath. Also great for DH to take a bath with DS and have lovely skin to skin.

Agree with other posters that its good to have another person on hand to help with handing DC to you once you're in the bath and lifting them out after. Also get a bath thermometer so you know the water is the right temperature.

DS is now 22mo and 90% of the time we still have baths with him.

redwellybluewelly · 18/03/2013 19:20

Its the best bit. Cant wait to do it again.

Except for being pooped on. That was fairly rubbish. Twice.

Dh was giggling too much to help, the git.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 18/03/2013 19:23

You could do this in the bath with dd too...try not to cry when watching baby bath (stolen from a thread a couple of weeks ago)

honeytea · 19/03/2013 19:00

We did it right from the start, ds has never had a bath without me or dp being in with him.

The first time I had a bath with just ds (he was about a week and a half old) he did a huge poo, dp was asleep in bed but my mum was visiting so I called her to come and help me (my little sister who is 9 also followed her in) that wasn't one of my most dignified moments.

You can also shower with your baby, it is really lovely, if you hold them over your shoulder with your arm under their bum and let the water hit their little back, ds loves it he falls asleep in the shower :)

rachi1990xx · 19/03/2013 22:05

We have done this with my ds since 3 weeks as he hated the baby my dp did it at 1st while i was recovering and now i have him with me aswell he prefers it this way as he feels safer with us holding it x great for bonding x

MamaBlue4 · 19/03/2013 22:51

I've done it with all my kids, however bath time with twins is more difficult but once I got the hang of it, I was a pro. Only needed DH's help a few times. The dts always fall asleep in the bath - always.

If you have the chance, do it :)
