Which reins for toddler?

I'm interested in getting some reins for my 15 month old. His walking has really improved recently and he is very interested in walking whilst out and about for short bursts. I would like to have him on reins at times to be able to keep him safe but also as a way of breaking a fall as he is only learning still. Any recommendations please? Thank you.

Little life rucksacks are fantastic!!! They are a little backpack (you can get different animals or plain ones) with a little lead on, nicer than reins I think, not so restraining but still safe!

second the rucksack, dd has loved hers since we got it 18 months ago and it frees up space in my handbag as she loves 'being grown-up' and carrying her own snacks, drink and a toy :)

I used the clippasafe ones. I only used them if DS was playing up so didn't want to have to carry a little rucksack the rest of the time. Great reins, no problems.

Second little life backpacks. DS hated reins but was (is) a 'runner' so I had to use something even when he was way past toddler age. He would wear his ladybird one quite happily and collect things to put in it on walks etc.

Yes, another vote for little life backpacks. We have got animal ones - a dinosaur and shark. Just enough room for a tomee tippee cup, wipes and a nappy.

Yes, we have a skip+hop rucksack, the owl. DS was very excited to have his own bag and it was a revelation to me that he could carry his own drink, wipes and snacks!

Little Life rucksack. DD1 was a ladybird and if I could only find the blasted thing then dd2 would be one very soon too :)

Sorry, the rucksack has a leash on it, which tucks into a little pocket if you're not using it.

Little Life are brilliant. They feel like it's more a rucksack and it keeps them safe. We got the brown dinosaur one Grin

I was coming on to say no to the rucksac type ones, I think oold fashioned type reins are much easier and lead to more natural walking.

After posting on here I bought a little life rucksack for ds. He's 18m and his walking is really starting to take off BUT he sounds similar to your ds in that he is still wobbly and unsure of himself. I tried the rucksack a couple of times and just found it felt not secure enough to catch him properly, so I have bought the clippasafe reins to use as a stopgap until he is really steady.

I can see the rucksack will be fab in a couple of months time though!

Second the little life one. It was expensive (about £20) but worth every penny for DD who has ASD and bolts

I used Clippasafe reins for five months from when DD started walking until she was very steady on her feet and running. Then I bought her a Little Life backpack.

I think they have different purposes. Clippasafe are great for breaking the fall/catching a just toddling child when they are still unsteady on their feet. Little Life are great for keeping faster, more mobile children safe.

I wouldn't recommend Little Life for a new walker as you can't catch/break falls with them. I would say buy a Clippasafe set of reins now and when they are steady on their feet move up to Little Life.
