Milk issues!

Hi my 4 week old baby is really struggling keeping his feeds down! My HV originally told me to swop his milk to Aptamil! Anyway it didn't help so the Gp told me to use soya milk and prescribed gaviscon the gaviscon has stopped the sickness completely but the explosive nappies are still as bad! I've gone to the GPS again today to get the results for an infection test and intolerance test the infection has come back clear but the intolerance test hasn't come back yet! The gp won't prescribe any other milk until its back and it could take another week! I was just wondering what people think I should do my little boy just doesn't settle and has constant belly ache! Do you think it's worth trying the aptamil again and outing gaviscon in or buying the sma LF? It's just not fair on my little boy! I feel so bad for him!

soya milk should not be given as the first alternative especially to baby boys. You could try SMA LF or add colief to normal first milk or you could try one of the anti-reflux milks e.g. Aptamil and Cow and Gate do anti-reflux formula and SMA does a Staydown formula.

Does the GP suspect lactose intolerance or cows milk protein intolerance as whichever one it is affects what sort of milk will suit best?

They have said that the result will pick up either but the soya milk should help! I've heard this about boys and I'm getting worried him being on it! He's been on it for 2 weeks now! Would normal milk with gaviscon in be a better option do you think? X

If it is an allergy to CMP then it's very common to also be allergic to soya protein as well. Ideally you should get your GP to prescribe a hypoallergenic formula such as neocate or nutramigen. You can buy these milks over the counter if you are desperate, but they are very expensive.

it is common for children with milk allergy to also be intolerant to soya. Soya formula isnt recommended for babies under the age of 6 months
