Wondering when is a safe time to not use the baby monitor anymore. My ds is 7 months old and i do get a disturbed sleep when i hear the slightest noise. But also scared to turn it off in case i dont hear him cry.

I use one still for dd she's 23 months, she's very quiet and cries quietly. She has separation anxiety especially at night, so we have one in her room so I know when she's up.

Honestly, I think you can use them as long as possible and when you feel comfortable enough not to have one anymore.

we use one with our 2.2 yo becuase when we are downstairs with the telly on we would never hear him without it. He doesn't wake often but has had croup 6 or 7 times so I am not giving it up until he's in a bed and able to get out and come and get us!

DS is 19 months, we still use a monitor for naps + night time. We can't hear him crying in his room from downstairs or our bedroom (victorian house with rock solid walls) - he'd have to be absolutely screaming his head off for us to hear him and I'd prefer it not to get to that! We're expecting DC2 shortly and have bought a 2nd monitor for when it goes into it's own room. Well we'll be putting the posh PFB monitor in DC2's room + the new cheap-as-chips one in DS's room. Depends on your house + loudness of child I reckon...

DS is almost 23 months and we still use one, and we have another awaiting the arrival of DC2 (13 days and counting!).
We can't hear DS from our bedrooms unless he was screaming - and I'd rather get to him before it gets to that stage. I also can't leave doors open - he's a climber with no fear and I know his first reaction would be to discover the books on the top shelf of the bookshelf rather than wander into us!
I'm planning on using the monitor until he can open the door by himself - and hopefully he will have outgrown his death wish stage by then as well!

Ds is 4 and we still use one! Only really so that I don't have to worry watching tv in the evenings that I won't hear him crying if he has one of his frequent ear infections or nightmares.

Um, our kids are 8and 6 and we still find them useful. 2 way monitors so they can ask for a drink and we can say we are getting one and don't have trek up and downstairs twice.

We are quite lazy. Grin

I've never used one as our house is pretty small so DC is always in earshot. The only time I have to be careful is if it's nap time and I'm in the kitchen and the kettle / microwave / washing machine is on. Someone I know at work has 2 DCs aged 2 and 6 and they still use a monitor. It's entirely up to you.

DS is 22 mo and we use one between him going to bed & us going to bed, as we live in a tall house. Once we go to bed we switch it off as his bedroom is next to ours and can easily hear him cry/babble.

We recently went on holiday in a cottage though and his bedroom was down a corridor, so we did use the monitor overnight in that situation as we'd only have been able to hear him without it if he'd been wailing.
