Admittedly, i am rusty at this parenting lark, but advice and suggestions would be very welcome.

So every day i have a challenge it seems, and i thought i was old hand, clearly wrongly!

My baby boy is 8 weeks today, he had periods of being very awake and alert. I talk to him and put him on his change mat to have a kick, walk around with him while doing my jobs and stuff around the house.

He is ok with this for a while but then gets unsettled and crabby so i just shove a boob in and feed him....dont know if her is hungry or not but it immediately settles him down.

Dont want to keep on doing this, so can anyone shed any light on what i could be doing or should be doing with him instead of automatically feeding him?

Thanks x

Might he be tired? How long after waking is he getting crabby? My DS is 12 weeks and can only stay awake for about an hour to an hour and fifteen mins and then needs a nap again - he shows me this by looking away from me, getting grumpy and rubbing his face with his fists.

Not to say feeding him is a bad thing - he is still very tiny!

Booby is good - it's food, reassurance, comfort...it's a way of going to sleep if tired, or shutting down a bit if overstimulated. Feeding snuggled up with you is like being back in the womb really. X

I agree with Squidgers - booby is good, if it soothes him - great!

My DS is 16 weeks and up until about 10-12 weeks, whenever he was unsettled, I shoved a boob in. Since then, if he doesn't want boob, he doesn't take it. Cwtch up on the sofa and enjoy it while it lasts!

My dd would feed, be awake for an hour, then sleep for 1/2 hour, then feed... and so on and so on 24 hours.
Took me a while to figure out but it was lovely when we got into this little routine when she was tiny. I started out demand feeding and she fell into this routine of her own accord
