Oh christ, how long is this going to take?

Hi All, DD is 2.5 and I've finally decided to stop pandering to her fussy eating habits and just make family meals without special substitutions.

So far she won't try a single crumb of anything not on her 'approved list'. I'm doing well not reacting or getting angry, and I've been taking away the first course without comment, then offering a light pudding (small yoghurt/grapes)

Afterwards I tell her I'd like her to try some of her supper next time.

So, others who've been through this - how long before I see some results? and also ... should I lose the pudding if she won't even try the main?

Thanks so much!

I can't really help but it's bloody exhausting isn't it?! I hate dinner time being such an ordealSad

Have you seen the book 'my child won't eat' by Carlos Gonzalez? Very reassuring. He also has another book just reprinted in English (he's a Spanish paediatrician) called Kiss Me about children took, just lovely

TiredyCustards · 13/03/2013 18:20

Hi Leda, yes exhausting is right. Perhaps we need a support thread instead!

I'm determined not to lose,my temper or give up though.

What's your strategy?

Going through same thing ds 2.6, was amazing eater until he turned 2ish. Il be watching this thread. He's driving me nuts !

difficultpickle · 13/03/2013 21:36

When ds was that age he was under the care of a consultant paediatrician (non diet related). I remember asking him what I could do to persuade ds to eat. He said I needn't bother as at that age ds could 'live on air'. I was amazed at how little ds ate and worried but ds didn't get smaller, he got bigger.

Now at the age of 8 he eats adult portions of food and keen to try all sorts of different foods. If someone had told me this when ds as 2.5 I wouldn't have believed them.

QTPie, a matter of days? Would that be giving her food she has never tried doesn't like for every meal?

I'm planning on 1 'new' lunch and 1 'new' supper per week, plus repeats of previous weeks' 'new' meals, iyswim.
