my ds1 got a Child trust fund and we pay £20 into it every month as top up.

ds2 was born too late so hasnt got one.

what do others do in these circumstances?

should i just set up a savings acct for ds2 and make the same initial payment and top up?

we could just about afford this but what do parents who can't do? I have a friend who says she will make her dc with a fund share with his sister who hasn't but theirs no way she could force that is there? (her older child got £500 at birth and £500 at 7 so £1000 in all).

I'd stop paying in the £20 for DS1 and put it into an account for DS2 - it will soon even up, then you can top them up equally.

DD1 got £500 in her CTF. I pay in £10 per month and have done since she was about 5months. Shes now 4.

There is no way we can afford to make that up for DD2. We are opening a junior ISA for her and will start paying in £10 per month too. If in the future we can make it up we will. If we cant we wont.

Dont really think DD1 should be expected to share tbh. It was my choice to have another child, not hers.

We don't top up the CTF but into an account in her name but that we control, will do the same with next baby. Hated the thought we could pay all that money in for 18 years and she could blow it all if she was a bit off the rails at 18!!
