Hi all,

I will be starting my DS on solids in a few weeks and I was looking for a book on weaning and also one with recipes. Any suggestions ?? I cannot decide between Gina Ford and Annabel Karmel... or is there another better author out there?
I haven't decided whether I'll be doing purees or going the BLW way... so I would like a book that deals with both...

Thanks !

We can see this thread is very old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for suggestions, we’ve recently refreshed our best weaning books page with lots of great options tried and tested by Mumsnet parents. We hope you find it useful.

I liked the River Cottage babies & toddlers recipe book.

I wouldn't bother, plenty of recipes online. Just bookmark them so there all in one place.

Weaning made easy - by Rana Conway.
Talks through the pros, cons and evidence for baby-led AND traditional puree weaning. It has recipes too.

And how to do each, I should've added!

I used Annabel Karmel and it worked really well for DS1, I enjoyed making a real range of stuff, I like following plans etc so it worked for me, DS yummed it up and was a joy to feed. I like now having a record of what he liked.

DS2 on the other hand wasn't having any of it....I tried but he was not a fan so he just had what we had!

Amongst my friends it's Annabel Karmel for traditional weaning or Gill Rapley for baby led weaning

Thanks all !

Is it true that Annabel recipes contain sugar and salt ?!? I think I read that on some other MN post...

I used the Gina Ford one, still refer to recipes now, and ds is 19 months.
I didn't get on with Annabel Karmel ones while he was younger, but refer to them now.

I like the Baby Led Weaning Cookbook by Gill Rapley, it's very reassuring and the recipes are simple and easy. If you want to mash up the food for your LO you still can. I started off with purées, but then wanted help with proper mals and found the BLW Cookbook.

Thanks all - I've bought the Rana Conway book - lets see how I get on with it :)
