I have been nominated for a national award related to my work and I would really like to take dd to the award ceremony. She's 10. We are very close having spent 5 years on our own. Awards sponsors have offered to pay for hotel and a couple of attractions in London for us both. Problem is its in school time and will mean two days absence. School are tough on absence but I so want her to be there. She's my family and together we have had some tough times. I'm not sure how to approach this with school- any advice. thought we could do some educational attractions and she could do a little project for school. What do you think?? I don't normally like her missing school so have never done this before.

If it's a well known award (Buck House to see the Queen etc) chances are they'd say yes. I'd put it in terms of the importance of the event and hope for the best.

You've GOT to take her!

Apply to the school for time off, they will probably authorise it. But even if they don't, take her anyway. It will just go down as unauthorised absence, not the end of the world.

Well done btw!

I would go no matter what the school says - it sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

They may say it will go down as unsuthorised absence, but unless she has missed school for other reasons recently that shouldn't cause you any trouble.

Great! Well done and good that school is on board.

I wouldn´t worry about doing educational things when you´re there: the importance of having you as a role model showing what you can achieve - despite the tough times - will make a much bigger impact on her educational development, motivation and expectations for what she can achieve if she works hard than any museum...
