My ds is 5 1/2 months and suddenly can get everywhere..
he can spin then roll, creep, pull himself around etc.

I am stuck for what to do with him when I need to get things done.

he hates being strapped into his bouncer/car seat unless we are going somewhere..same with his sling..i used to be able to have him in it and potter around the house but now he gets crossand tries to pull himself out.

he cries if he is left in his cot/ babdan..i think it's too big and cagelike and 'imposing' for him..

i not long ago could put him in the middle of our bed with a 'fortress' of pillows around him but won't now since he had his first fall by climbing upand over them.

am i destined to have a baby on my hip everytime i do the washing up..collect a parcel..do cooking..washmy face etc?.

should i 'baby-proof' everything in our living room thats higher than a couple of feet and just let him roll around?

what can i do!?

Won't he just watch you do the washing up, be in the bathroom etc?

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 14:31

well he used to when he could sit in his bouncer without the straps..but now he can get out and has to be 'strapped' he freaks out as soon as i strap him in...

I mean will he just sit and watch, and maybe shuffle a bit. Does he have to be strapped into something at all times?

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 14:33

ooh harpy..that looks great..i didn't want a babywalker but that looks similar( just not dangerous!) and like something he'd love..
he's just at that age where he loves constant stimulation and hates being 'babied'
which is all fab..but not when i'm hungry and can't even make lunch without him yelling..lol

compo..he'd have to be in his bouncer in the kitchen..and yes!as soon as he gets in it he tries to roll in it and topple it...

the thing is he won't be able to be in his bouncer in the kitchen forever so you may as well get used to him getting around everywhere now, iyswim!!

DS liked his door bouncer at that age.

DS was on the move from 6 months and it was a bit of a nightmare to begin with, mainly because he would crawl to a hard surface, e.g. chimney breast, sit up, then capsize over and crack his head on it.

I would definitely try & babyproof an area, take as much out as possible, and leave him to it!

In fact we turned our dining room into a playroom for a while. Put a stairgate on the doorway so you can answer to the door etc.

BTW the last suggestion works fine if they are OK when you leave them but DS wasn;t & screamed so I did a lot of cooking, phoning, etc with him on my hip & even weeing with him on my lap iirc!

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 14:47

you are so right!

wew were very naive i thinking we'dhave longer to 'babyproof' our place..

lots of people onmy postnatal thread use baby door bouncers buti'm not sure about them in safety trms..

must get on it..
i.e our tv dvd/stereo stack is on a sideboard around 5 inches from the ground..very 'minamilist' but only we will be blamed when we have a sandwich posted though the video flap..lol

yes dd2 is in dd2's old baby not-walker Grin (not sure what to call it really - dd1 says "her standy up thing")
it is really useful and they both loved it.
the one we had converted to a play station thing for when they are walking
she also loves her door bouncer
she is quite an uproght baby (5 1/2 months too btw)

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 14:49

oh and ds is fine left alone..just not fine if strapped into anything
lol

i really think that not-baby-walker might be just the thing i need..
i mean..i love watching him crawl all over our bed/ the floor..but there are times i need to put him down and get things done..

an update..i've ordered one of those whatnots and live in hope..doing the dishes whilst cooing to a baby in a seat wears thin pretty soon..lol
i thought the babydan playpen would do the job and eagerly awaited it arriving but he hates it, even when ifill it wit his favourite toys..!

but on a positive note..my thoughts have turned to 'babyproofing' fully now, which will involve some new furniture and redecorating, which will be a pain..but is always fun..

I had the baby not walker with ds2 and ds3 - worked really well. If you live in the SW I am selling mine :o (for nowhere near 75 quid or however much they cost new)

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 05/05/2006 23:08

oh you've ordered one! Good luck, they're good.

FrayedKnot · 06/05/2006 15:10

Tip re the playpen.

Leave the door open, fill with toys.

He will soon be crawling in to investigate.
