Does anybody know?

No. It's normal for them to be done at the main Sunday service, so the whole congregation can welcome the new member of the Church. But a private Christening can be arranged at any time at the priest's discretion.

Thank you

Yes, ask your vicar.

My cousin's eldest was baptised on a Saturday. Depends on the church and the priest.

Totally depends on the vicar, but the church family shoud be there too as well as birth family to welcome new person as scaveloa has said.
Why are you asking?

Notmyidea · 14/03/2013 18:23

up to the vicar, ours will only do a baptism on set sundays during the normal service. The only exceptions I've known are for families who have had babies born with serious health concerns.

Just because i'm booking my daughters christening on Monday and we have family coming from 160 miles away who need to be home Sunday evening for work on Monday, so it would be a hell of a lot easier to have the christening on a Saturday so they can stay the night afterwards before a long drive! I'm sure we can have a private one at the church as i was christened there and it was private - saying that it was nearly 28 years ago!
