5yrd old b'day party till 7pm on a school night?

Would you let your dc go to a party for 2.5hrs on a Tuesday night after school till 7pm (reception class). About 8 invited. He goes to parties almost every weekend.

I think it's a stupid time to have a party for young children. Ds is tired and hungry enough after school. If he was a few years older or it finished at 6 I'd be more likely to think its ok.

Dh sees my point but doesn't want ds to feel left out.

What do you think? Am I being cruel to turn it down?

I don't have a 5yo but my DN is that age and there's no way she'd cope with that. I'm presuming it's at a venue and they couldn't get a different time?

cupcake78 · 10/03/2013 21:55

Nope it's at the house.

As a one off I'd have let my DC go but not if it happened regularly.

Stupid, they'll all be knackered for the rest of the week....

nilbyname · 10/03/2013 21:57

What? That is bedtime. Nope my DS would not be attending, he would be a grumpy mess for days afterwards! Not fair on him or anyone he comes into contact to!

loler · 10/03/2013 21:58

Go but say you need to leave early. If it's at a house it shouldn't matter, it's for 2.5 hours any way (longer than normal around here!).

Hulababy · 10/03/2013 21:59

I'd have let dd go as a one off party, not a big deal ime. But we've always been fairly flexible regarding routines inc bedtime.

cupcake78 · 10/03/2013 21:59

He gets invited to parties nearly every week, some weekends he's had up to 3 invites. He goes to a big school.

My concern is that this is going to become more regular as nights get lighter etc.

Yes. Bedtimes not until 8 here, it's a one off, or leave early.

Hulababy · 11/03/2013 17:51

I reckon most parties will still be weekends in general, only odd ones after school and def few on a school night and finishing a bit later.

TheChaoGoesMu · 11/03/2013 17:58

I'd let my 5 yr old go.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 11/03/2013 18:03

yes, as a one-off, although lights out is normally 7.30 here.
I would be prepared for a shitstorm though. There was a reception party last year, to which dd1 wasn't invited (just the boys), at the same time. apparently every single child was in tears at one point or another.

IrnBruTheNoo · 12/03/2013 13:12

DS goes to his bed at 7pm! He's nearly 6yo! No way would he last up all that time on any night, never mind a school night.

Catsdontcare · 12/03/2013 13:15

It's not a time I would choose but as a one off I would let him go
