Advice travelling to and from US with 9mo

I have looked up loads of threads on this but I can't seem to find the answer I need....

I know you can reserve cartons of formula and baby food to collect at Heathrow after security, which is fine and which I've done.

How on earth does it work on the return journey - I cant imagine we're going to find anywhere to buy Aptimil after security at JFK. And I expect U.S. security to be less inclined to wave a collection of cartons through. I presume we'll have to take powder (as I guess it'll be easier to taste that if carried in a travel dispenser), but I'm not very sure we'll be able to persuade BA staff to give us freshly boiled hot water...as I'm presuming the water they use isn't freshly boiled all the time...

Any other advice you could give us would be brilliant. He's just started properly crawling now, and our flight is in 2 weeks...not perfect timing.

Buy a newborn starter pack for your case. On the return, lots of 90ml "shots" of milk in your clear plastic bag.

I took a jar of powdered when I did it when my son was 6 months.

And didn't fret too much about the freshly boiled part. It's only for a few feeds, after all.

Just take powder you don't need to boil drinking water after 6 months and the chances of baby powder having bacteria in it is minute

Just so you know, aptimil isn't available in the US. You an either pack enough for the trip or use an American formula.

We have also taken the DCs to the US a few times as babies / toddlers. We're just back from our latest trip, and I found it far easier than on previous trips to buy recognisable baby food - e.g. Target now stock Ella's Kitchen pouches and nibbly fingers.

Can you buy lounge access at JFK? We have found the staff in US BA lounges to be fantastic with children - we were in the Newark BA lounge last month and they volunteered to cook pasta and tomato sauce for my children (as the food options weren't hugely child friendly), brought milk and cookies at "bedtime" when they saw we'd changed out children into PJs etc. We didnt have to ask for any of this, it was all instigated by the staff with their very American approach to customer service, so I'm sure things like boiled water would be supplied.

A friend who travels a lot says keep them in baby-gros, bin them if there's a nappy explosion. She also used to buy nappy packs from ikea, they're 10p and have a nappy, wipes and a mat. She found this easier as she just grabbed one rather than faffing about with various packets.
