Juice in a bottle drank with breakfast or juice in a cup drank through out the day?

Ds has to have orange juice everyday or he gets very constipated the doctor has advised to have a carton a day but i struggle to get him to drink it he grazes on it all day long, he was at my grans for lunch the other day and she gave him the juice in his bottle (she had no idea she wasn't meant to) and he drank the whole lot with lunch.

Obviously the guildlines are juice with meals only and not in a bottle but as i cant get him to drink from a cup in one go what is the best route to take? This morning i gave him juice in his bottle with breakfast then brushed his teeth. Keeping going with the cup is not an option as the constipation is turning into a fear of pooing and the doctor is concerned it will become a huge issue. DS is 13mo.

I am very sure the doctor would be horrified you let him have the juice in a bottle.
Provide a varied diet with lots of fruit and veg and he should be fine. A good drink of water in a bottle will probably do the trick to relieve constipation.

A bit surprised the doctor recommended orange juice for constipation in a 13mo. It's bad for their teeth and water is at least as good for keeping stools soft and moving.

My 5yo DS has suffered with todfler diarrhoea and constipation, and we have ongoing poo issues under specialist care. In the last 2 years we've GP, gastro specialists and continence nurse and none of them has ever recommended orange juice. I have been told to really up his water intake though. IME orange juice actually can make everything explosive rather than 'regular'.

I'd focus on upping water intake, and a good balanced diet with lots if fruit and veg. Both my DCs surprisingly liked prunes and they really help clear them out :) If you are to try juice, I'd be tempted to try watering down some prune juice first before I went near acidic orange juice.

One bottle once would be better, if he drank it in one go then he can brush his teeth after that meal.

Drinking through a straw minimises contact with teeth so similarly if you helped him drink the whole, lot in one go that way it would be ok.

My SIL's doctor recommended orange juice for a much younger baby than this, it's not an unusual recommendation at all.

Grazing on juice is bad for the teeth but so is brushing straight after drinking it. Acidic juice weakens enamel. If you brush immediately after drinking it, you brush at the enamel. Think you're supposed to wait 30 mins before brushing.
