I need to give ds calpol but don't have a syringe, do you think it is ok to use a spoon?

can you give it to them that young?

I would imagine they would just spit it out if given on a spoon.

princessx · 06/03/2013 15:55

Yes recommended after 8wk injections. Worried that a spoon will make him swallow it too quickly

mmmm, measure it out on spoon and then use your finger, dab it on and baby sucks it off?? (am crap aren't I!) Wink

Dribble it into cheek from spoon, not too much at once though otherwise could choke.

You prob don't need to give it unless your baby's noticeably hot and bothered, or in pain though - unless doc has said otherwise for some reason relating to your baby's general health?

syringe type medicine dispenser? Or there is a dummy one? I have both and find them amazing Grin Grin

If baby is bf, and running a temperature, I'd measure it into a large spoon, and let them lap it up.
If bottle fed, what would happen if you got a bottle teat, and filled than with the capol if required? Would it be taken that way?

I'm of the opinion that a slight temperature after vaccs is beneficial, as it is the body sorting out its immune response, so if the child is ever exposed to the disease again, they can fight it yes, I'm the one who didn't give DS2 calpol til he was about 20 mths

Thanks he did have temp, and was upset, dh just came home with calpol and syringe but baby now sleeping so will hold off for time being. Thanks for posts, baby is ebf and I don't like the thought if all the artificial sweeteners in calpol etc

Blush apologies OP Ive just noticed you mentioned a syringe at the beginning.....clearly not paying any attention whatsoever....Blush

We have always used a spoon...I was too naive to know any different but she was absolutely fine. All you can do is try and if it doesn't work tr some of the other options.

An 8 week old shouldn't have a temperature unless it's from his jab or he has a cold. He should be protected from your antibodies until 12 weeks, when he starts making his own. A baby this small needs to see a doctor. (I am hoping the temp is from a jab/cold but I'm not assuming, hence my post)
