DD seemed to get it then total relapse!

DD is 2.7 years - been sitting on potty morning and night for a long time, mostly performing. Decided to "go for it" potty training 2 weeks ago - knickers she loved, sticker chart which went down great, choccie buttons for poos etc - she did really well for about 12 days and then total relapse and refuses to sit on potty at all, even at night/morning which she'd done for ages. Got her in Pull ups now as so much mess otherwise but thats expensive and not sure whether to go back to nappies - which I swore we wouldn't do....Any advice? Very frustrated as it had been going so well and we'd left it quite late to start trying as we thought it would then "click" quicker...

Sounds like a control thing to me rather than her not getting it - she's found something that she can control, and not only that but something that seems important to you, and that she can wind you up with.

I would call her bluff ... don't make a fuss, don't get uptight, just tell her that she's going back into nappies - say something like "I thought you were getting to be a big grown up girl, but big girls wee in the toilet and not in their knickers, so you're going to have to wear nappies again". She will probably be horrified, and it may be enough to concentrate her mind back onto being dry again.

We had a bad day today. We had cracked it then we got loads of wet pants, even at nursery. Just keep at it, its best sometimes if you dont bat an eyelid at mistakes, but praise all her good efforts.

Are you at home all day? How realistic is no knickers no nappy i.e. bare bum for a day or two? Sometimes works for us if we have a set back.

people say don't make a fuss when an accident happens, and I think that's right in the beginning but my DS went through a bad patch and i think it was laziness - the novelty had worn off.
I reverted to taking him for a wee every hour whether he asked or not, and a couple of times I did tell him off (gently!) for not asking for the toilet.

Anyway after a couple of days he was back on track.
