Has anyone ever skipped the potty stage and gone straight to toilet training seats?

Just that really. DS is 2.2 and not quite ready yet. He poos standing up in his nappy and then we empty it and flush it down the loo while he looks on with interest, he doesn't seem to care about wees in nappy ( they are very absorbent so not surprised) but he is quite intested in watching me and DH use the loo. We have a baby Bjorn toilet training seat and a step. Is it worth just going straight to sitting on the loo rather than a potty? I've not had a child before so would be interested in your thoughts.

PS. DS is tall. So could manage to get up and down with a bit of help and is growing very fast. He is not able to manage pulling shorts up and down yet though.

Thanks

My DDs very rarely used the potty or the toilet seat insert.

DD1 saw her year older BF just hope up and did the same.
She loved climbing and threw herself up at speed sending the insert flying.

DD2 is three years younger, so stood no chance at all of finding the toddler seat on the loo.

Hop up.

My daughter went straight to the loo without issue.

DD trained at 2.2 and used the potty a few times but moved swiftly to using the toilet with the trainer seat. She hated the potty and refused to go on it. She was clean and dry v quickly so it was a doddle. My DS on the other hand refuses to use the loo.

Yes both my boys went straight to seats on the toilet & then progressed fairly quickly to standing up wees. With ds1 we bought a potty but he point blank refused to sit on it and with ds2 we didn't bother & went straight to the seat. Both of them are tall & we got a little step & they had no problems getting on & off.

Neither of my two would ever use a potty. (Did offer!) We used a trainer seat on the toilet and I held them on the toilet if we were out.

Yes.My youngest, now four used her potty once.As a hat.Never used it and cried to use the toilet. She is youngest of three so had seen everyone else use the loo and wanted to do the same. She was very aware of when she wanted the toilet though and I could count the number of wet pants on one hand.My older two did use the potty a bit,but wanted to be 'big kids' early!

We never used a potty at all. My DCs were toilet trained at about 2y6m, 2y9m and 3y1m (approx, coz I can't quite remember).
I don't think it makes any difference. I didn't take the trainer seat with us when we went out either. We just used to make do.

This is what I was thinking so thanks to you all for not making me feel weird about hating potties. DD isn't yet 2 but she loves to copy what we do. I imagine she'd find the potty either ridiculous or upsetting. She'd want to use the loo like we do. I also think it's maybe a bit weird to train the kid to a potty then do it all over again for the toilet, when you could just do it once...

Maybe I'll change my tune in a few months!

My oldest three (all boys) went straight to using the toilet. They all learnt to wee standing up, straight away, as well. It was much easier and less effort than it has been with my DD, who is using the potty due to being too small to get on and off the toilet, even with a step.
