was just reading this MN tip:
So young babies don't miss out in the summer, use breast or formula milk in ice lollies moulds. Perfect for teething babies, too.
I didn;t think you could freeze formula milk?

You can freeze it, for 12 weeks I think.

waterfalls · 30/04/2006 13:53

Oh no, hang on I thought You wrote breast milk, not sure about formula milk.

Pomi · 30/04/2006 14:04

You will probably find that some young babies actually really hate ice-cold things - cubes, BM lollies or whatever - also, I could be wrong, but I don't think they can suck properly either - they use a different motion to breast feed and so have no idea how to "suck" on a lolly.

not sure if it's quite the same thing but i was told that the action for bf is totally different to that required for bottle f. it's not. i did both with my dd, it was the same action

other tips i've been given are cucumber or raw carrot from the fridge. and also to freeze a banana in its skin, then take off the skin and give the frozen inside so chew on.

i suppose it would be best to freeze the carrots and then run them under warm water to take the chill off or defrost slightly and keep in the fridge, not sure about cucumber though? fromage frais and ice cream would also be good i expect as would putting ice cubes in their juice.

tbh i think the ultimate teething remedy is good old calpol. those teething rings, granules, gels and liquids never last long enough to work properly!!

you could try a wet flannel in the freezer for 15 minutes then let them chomp on it, helped both of mine. They also liked toothbrushes - the baby toothbrush. I also used to use that baby brush you put on your finer to brush first teeth to rub their gums and also to press gently into the gum where the tooth is coming thru.

I gave Bob boob cubes to keep him occupied whilst we ate tea and before I weaned him onto solids at 6 months. He didn't really eat them as such - but enjoyed exploring the new texture.

MummyToToby · 13/05/2006 12:02

boob cubes?

compo · 13/05/2006 12:06

cubes of frozen breast milk presumably

fattiemumma · 13/05/2006 12:09

i think the tip is a good one as is the frozen veg. but i think they mean babies of 6 months onwards to be honest. i cant see a 12 wo sitting sucking on a ice pop lol.

MummyToToby · 13/05/2006 21:58

going back to my original question of whether you can freeze formula milk .. you can! for ice lollies or otherwise ..
