right, have read through previous threads and am still none the wiser. i have taken the plunge and made the decision to use reusable nappies on my 6 week old daughter, i have just brought terry squares and nappy nippas for now, but am finding they leak at the slightest sign of wetness, so am looking for something abit more 'modern' have browsed hundreds of sites, totsbots, cotton bottoms, green baby baby bambino etc etc and haven't a clue, may now be a case of too much information.

does anyone have any strong recommendations (also looking for strong nos!) on good all in one (??) nappies, like the idea of having the ones with the wraps/covers in cute designs as well as the plain colours for summer.

thanks

Which wraps are you using now? How often are you changing? Best to sort out existing probs before adding new napps into the equation!

popsycalindisguise · 29/04/2006 18:11

wraps Motehrease airflow are the only ones that worked for us

CorrieDale · 29/04/2006 18:22

We use Motherease Rikki with success. But the Airflow ones are also brilliant. I've used Prorap and found them crap. Cotton Bottoms were fine for the newborn stage. But I'd say go for Motherease wraps deinitely.

my fave nappies are:
sandys (though a little bulky)
ecobabies (hard to get hold of in the UK)
ellas house hemp
ellas house bumhuggers

and I hae tried many :)

vickiyumyum · 29/04/2006 19:45

thnaks for that, will look these up, am currently using mothercare pants over the top, but don't like them as they are too plasticky. only brought them because went to mothercare world with my mum and she said they were good enough for me and my brother, so brought them and realised that there wasa reason people stopped using them, also they leave a mark on lucy's legs as the elastic is quit tight, so think i would prefer something not so plastic and velcro, or popper fastening or at least covered elastic on the legs.

according to that website the fold i am using is the kite fold, just doing the one my mum showed me how to do. Blush at my complete lack of knowledge.

I really like the bumbles I'm using, they are quick drying so I'm getting away with washing 10-12 of them every other day. DS is 7 weeks old so similar in age to yours I think. Bumbles are holding pooh INSIDE the nappy very well, no pooh leaks yet with them, as they have a slightly elasticated waist and legs. I use Motherease Airflow wraps over them, the prints are pretty cute, wetlands is frogs and ducks, Savanah is zebra, hippos, gazzelles etc.
I also like the Nappy Nation nappy but I only have a large one so I havn't used it yet. But it dries VERY fast

poppy101 · 29/04/2006 20:56

When I used terries, I used a booster inside and nappy nippa. Also just use the old fashioned plastic pants from Boots.

peaches27 · 29/04/2006 20:58

I keep reading these threads and I am almost converted ... I used very good quality terries 20+ years ago and cant remember leaks. But I hated the plastic pants as they used to go all hard and rub the little uns legs. I expect they are much better now.

misdee · 29/04/2006 21:18

try the jo fold with a motherease wrap.

mothercare terries are really thin. i have boots ones which are better.

vickiyumyum · 29/04/2006 21:18

peaches_ not really any better thats what i am using now and after a couple of washes they are already hard and horrible so thats why i'm looking into others.

i quite like the look of the bumbles or the ella hemp ones, and i love the pastel wraps you can get for some of them. have filled out a questionnaire with the nappy lady and waiting for her to get back to me and also another one on chooseanappy.co.uk and they recommended ella hemp and bumbles or nappy nation. might get one of each to test them out.

thanks misdee will give that a try too as will save some money by not buying new nappies as well as wraps.

i still use the jo fold on dd3 who is 14months old. its quite easy with practise. works well even with mothercare terries.

starlover · 29/04/2006 21:22

vicki.. i used terries succesfully on ds... BEST fold was the origami fold. think it's on nappy lady site.
also, round his legs where it tends to be a bit baggy I usd to tuck it back into the nappy to neaten it up, which seemed to help!

won't add too much more into it as you;ve had plenty of good advice.
Only to say that my all time faves are:

fuzzi bunz. slim fitting. super quick to dry and easy to use.

ellas house bumhuggers... SO soft, and very, very absorbant, but do take a while to dry (my current fave though)

motherease one size... great for ds who is tall, much nicer fit on him than tots bots, and hopefully will last til he is potty trained. also slim fitting

wraps... motherease airflow... EVERY time

peaches27 · 29/04/2006 22:26

Vicky, plastic pants aside, how are you getting on with the terries?

I would like to give them a go just to try, and I have filled out a nappy lady thingy. I have also posted a wanted notice on our local freecycle. Hopefully someone may pass some on for me to try. I wish our council had a scheme, and then I wouldnt hesitate. Somewhere I have got one terry which is 24 years old and belonged to my darling son who is now at university. I shall get it out tomorrow if he visits and embarrass him in front of his girlfriend! Then I can use it to practice. I gave 3 dozen of the best quality terries to my dear friend Claire who I have now lost touch with.

vickiyumyum · 30/04/2006 07:33

it actually hasn't been as bad as i thought it would be! the first few days were the worst and i kept forgetting she had a terry on and it would leak, when we were out which is when she tended to get left in a nappy for longer than usual, and then of course it is a bit of apain carrying around wet/dirty nappies as have been using a carrier bag, but have just ordered a nappy bag fromt eh nappyladdy site.

i think if i can find the right wrap then normal terries will be fine for us, it will save money as i already have them and they are one size fits all. although i do quite like the look of the bumbles so may get a couple of them to try.

I am still looking into it. I am selling some baby kit (pushchair and car seat) and with proceeds I might kit myself out.

My friend on the caravan forum recommended Motherese and also directed me to the nappy lady.

sarahlou1uk · 30/04/2006 17:59

Hi. I am also new to real nappies and have decided to go with tots bots. Have found great bargains on ebay - you just have to be careful what you go for. I have got 20 size 1's and about 6 size 0 wraps and 6 size 1 wraps and this should see me through until dd is around 9 months (hopefully). Agree with what others are saying about motherease wraps, although personally I prefer the rikki (velcro not poppers like the airflow). Also you can get really cute wraps in fleece which are great for nightime.

starlover · 30/04/2006 20:23

vicki.. i used litewraps on ds when we had terries. They're nice because as well as the aplix they also have a popper on the leg to keep it snug

\link{http://www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Aplix_Velcro_Hook_and_Loop_fastening_wraps.html\5th one down!}

moonshaddow · 30/04/2006 20:37

the nappy lady ro-fold is my fav, a bit tricky to start with but just fab once mastered.

for terries that is.

all time fav nappy is the tots bots bamboozle

or ellas house bumhugger

or onelfe if on a budget.

vickiyumyum · 01/05/2006 17:34

right the nappy lady has recommended bumbles or tots bots with motherease wraps and tots bots wraps! have ordered a selection of each to see how i go before buying the whole lot (3 bumbles, 3 tots bots, 1 motherease wrap and 1 tots bot fleece wrap) will let you know how i get on.

must admit a bit more expensive than i had thought, but am also going to try my existing terries witht wraps!
