Ds is 2.4 and has always loved his bottle and is attached to it, without judgement please -? We've continued it allow this 1 in day and 2 in eve and goes to peep with it. We've created the habit and I'm aware of that and I think his fussy eating is down in someway to the fact his appetite is suppressed by the milk intake. He his v healthy - so no concerns there, just recently the last week he's wanted 3 at night and 2 during the night which is way too much. So we showed him yesterday the teats on the bottles were broken and old and he put them in the bin and we produced three new cups to choose from. He was ok in the day, then at night he was upset for 20 mins then woke in the night nd upset for 40 mins, then today he was ok and went to bed sad looking and without having ANY milk as he only like it in the bottle. I feel soo bad even though this is the right decision - it's something he loved - not sure what tonight will hold in store, can't go back but just wanted to hear from anyone else please?

I think there's been similar threads in the past... I know because I had something similar with my DS at the same age as yours! :)

I spoke to the HV and she said that as long as it's just water or milk he's drinking then don't worry too much and he'll outgrow it.

FWIW, it took my DS till just shy of his 3rd birthday to ditch the bottle.

Keep giving him a cup during the day, praise him for using it, but don't force him to give up the bottle as I think that could make him want it more. Just keep praising him for the cup and in time he'll see cup as norm.

You aren't a bad mum, you're doing fine.

My ds is just 2 and we took his bottle off him a week ago, he only had 1 at night, but i felt at 2 it was time for it too go.

He cried the first night and needed cuddling to sleep, he cried less the second and third night and by the fourth night there were no tears.

On the second night i wanted to give in and give it him back but then i thought if i did that i had let him cry the first night for no reason.

Stick with it, the crying wont last long.
