Bathtime

We've just started bathing our 3 week old DD (i know, bit late), and she screams all the way through. It doesnt matter how calm we try and make the experience - she's absolutely furious, and takes ages to calm down. We'd really love for her to have a relaxing, lovely bathtime like other, less angry babies. Any tips?

Try at a different time of day? Warmer water? Warmer room? Take her in bath with you to get her used to water? Good luck.

This time of year I would imagine the air temperature is relevant. My DS was born end December and I had a similar experience (i waited at least 2 weeks before first bath with both mine). We used a baby bath and I positioned it right by a radiator. He also got used to it! Bathing with the baby is a good idea. And don't remotely think you need to bath her every day. Once a week is fine at this age. Twice at most - so getting them in with you should be do-able.

We didn't bath our two until 3 months plus. Before that we wiped them clean.

Some babies absolutely hate it. How is she when she's undressed normally? If she doesn't like it, then maybe strip her top and wash, then put her top back on and strip and wash her bottom half. For a few weeks until she settled.

Bath with her, definitely. Was one of the few things that calmed down my newborn screamer :)

Interesting. Thanks everyone. I love mumsnet for this kind of thing. sittinginthesun - she hates being naked, so maybe we'll try that if all else fails!

Definitely get in the bath with her. I used to have a bath in the morning and feed DS whilst in there. Very relaxing all round particularly as it was snowing when he was born.
