How do you get your dd to keep a clip or bobble in her hair?

Dd 1.9yo has lovely hair but will not keep a bobble or clip in her hair for more than 2 mins!
She has a tendency towards scruff bag so a bobble to keep the hair out the food/ paint/ whatever would be handy. But no dd only seems happy when her hair is set with a mixture of bogies and yoghurt Hmm

Any advice other than cutting it all off? Confused

Nope. Cut a fringe and don't worry about it!

Meglet · 14/02/2013 19:55

I wish I knew. DD is 4.5 and no bobble or clip has lasted more than a few minutes. I keep her hair in a short bob so it's not really needed, although I try every so often. So, no idea Grin.

same here, no clip lasts longer than 30 mins, and DD has hair to her bum.
She looks wild :)
but sometimes she will let me make a plait. that's progress!
I don't like fringe, so she's very hippy chick.

I can't cut a fringe. Well I technically could but a combination of dd looking a bit odd when her hair was fringe length, me disliking fringes thanks to my mum for too many squiffy fringes and a natural kink in her hair means it ain't happening. :)

Glad dd isn't the only wild girl out there! :)

Does she go to nursery or a CM? That was the only way that I could get either of my two to do it. They would let their key workers put it in brute ever me. After a few months, it became normal.

However, if anyone has advice about a three year old keeping a hairband in........?Grin

Welcome to the wonderful world of DDs.

One happy day their hair will get to the stage it all reaches a nice neat pony tail.

Then, just as you think no more searching for clips, the horror will cur herself a long floppy "fashionable" fringe.

DD2 is 11 and we have finally found the solution.

UTube, 101 videos of ways to tie your hair back.At last without me nagging DD2 artfully twist back her stupid flopy fringe and looks tidy!

motherofvikings · 14/02/2013 22:12

No nursery anymore. They could get away with it but they would tie her hair so tight even I couldn't take them out without taking out a fair amount of hair! Shock

Her hair has a super strong crown swirl so I do wonder if it just feels weird for her as its not easy to make it lie smooth/ follow the swirl iyswim. That or she's just a monkey! :)

My DD won't keep a hair clip in and is constantly looking through her fringe like a moody teenager (but with a big smile). If it really annoyed her she would ask for the clip to be put back in. I am hoping her hair will grow long enough to tuck behind her ears soon. I can't cut a fringe as DH has said no, she has that tufty stuff at the front which will turn into more proper hair so a fringe would get too thick and the hair that covers her eyes comes right the way from the crown of her head and would look stupid cut to fringe length.

I have 4 dds ages 14 down to 22 months.
I have discovered that the secret is to just keep doing it. Every day put a clip in the hair. They usually take it out immediately, or straight after looking in the mirror. Sometimes I distract her (currently working on dd4) and it stays in a bit longer as she forgets about it for a while. When she takes it out I put it back in a few times but then give up.
I've been putting clips in every morning for a couple of weeks now and today we went shopping and she didn't take it out until we were in the car going home.

The same happened with my 2 year old. We're getting there and they actually both looked actually GROOMED today!!

:)

take her to a hairdresser and get a girly short cut.

I agree with Ummofumbridge, DD2 is a total scruffbag, she has a huge cowlick(?) so can't have a fringe (I've tried, it looks awful). Her hair is really fine so flops in her face and gets a huge Russell Brand style bed head thing at the back. We keep it in a short bob which helps a bit I suppose. The only time she'll keep a clip in is if I put one in while she's eating (or doing some other messy thing), when it actually makes her life easier so she'll tolerate it. If I put it in while she's distracted she sometimes won't notice for a while (and she looks so cute and groomed! It shouldn't matter but it's bliss!) The other thing is to let them choose clips/bands etc. I think given the choice DDs would both have alice bands with massive bows (I can't believe they came from me sometimes), although even if she chooses one she really likes she'll frequently take it out and give it to me. Clips are really expensive too!Angry

Have it cut. Little people have better things to do than faff with their hair.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/02/2013 21:34

I cut a wonky fringe. It's endearing Grin.

22mo DD can't keep a clip on for a minute!

plipplops · 15/02/2013 22:05

I should say that DD2 is 4.5 now and we've only been growing her fringe out for maybe the last year, when she was your DDs age we definitely went with the slightly dodgy fringe Smile
