What did you call playdates when you were younger?

When I was at primary school in the Nineties we never had "playdates". I don't think there was any equivalent word for the idea of going round to a friend's house.

Now it's all about the playdates - surely a US import. Even 12-week babies are having "playdates", which to me is a bit Hmm ...

Do your DCs have playdates? If not, what do you call them? And what did you call them when you were at school?

When I was at school they were called 'going round to so and so's house'.

When I was little we just played out until tea time. Someones mum would give us a drink and a biscuit at the back door if we were lucky.

My own DC had 'friends around to play'. Quiet often arranged at the school gate.

If they wanted 'friends to come for tea' I required some notice.

Playdates is an awful term. But I am very old.

friends round to play
