Hello,
My 8wo daughter has never been amazing with her feeds but now she is just crying every time the bottle comes near her.
She had her injections on Thursday and has has oral thrush since Monday.
From Friday onwards she has been really bad but she's not crying or being niggly inbetween feeds and she was doing very well even when her thrush was very bad
My husband and I are very worried but everyone just keeps saying she's not a hungry baby but at her 8w check up she hadnt put any weight on for 2 weeks, now she's gotten worse with the feeds I am so worried for her next weight in.

Could it be her injections?
Thanks for any help x

Ooh, my daughter was like this with her milk for a while, though a bit older than 8weeks. She'd scream at the bottle and get herself really worked up so feeds were an absolute nightmare. We tried every conceivable thing (calpol/teething gels, diff temp milk, different formula, feeding in different places, by the clock feeds, demand feeds etc) and I took her to the GP to rule out reflux or anything serious. In the end she did grow out of it (I think it helped me to chill out a bit to know there was nothing actually wrong). And in hindsight she's just never been fussed with milk; much prefers solids.

With your DD I'd doubt it was still fever from her injections if they were on Thursday - have you tried giving her Calpol to see if that helps bring down any injection related fever?. I do know that thrush can cause sucking to be painful so that could be causing a problem (a assume you have some of anti thrush medication you squirt in their mouth's?)
Also could possibly be the start of teething? If the teeth are moving about beneath her gums and getting into position that could cause sucking to be painful.

Sorry, not very helpful really! If she doen't improve I would definitely suggest taking her to GP to rule out anything nasty like reflux. TRy not to obsess about the weight gain too much (difficult I know) as I swear they can pick up on your anxieties around feeds.

Good luck!

My dd did this when she had thrush. Does she have nappy rash? If so very likely thrush. Take her back to the GP either way though and explain why you're worried. Keep a diary of exactly how much milk she's taking and at what times.

Could you try a teething powder to numb her mouth before feeding? Ashton and parsons can be used at her age it might allow her to feed i have tried it myself when i had a very painful mouth ulcer and it really does work. I might try doing it when she is sleeping something like a dream feed so there isn't the fear of the bottle to put her off. Also get on to the HV and GP to see what they think.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
She just took a full feed and I am sooooooooo proud of her!!!!
I am keeping a record of her feeds and I will but the teething gel tomorrow, to be honest I thought she'd be too young for teething so didn't really explore that option.
Thank you all

My DD had oral thrush at around that age and she went off her feeds then too - the GP told me it's a common reaction as the sucking action can make their mouths sore when they have thrush, and they aren't going to want to do something that hurts.
