hi everyone
my ten week old is obsessively addicted to an old fashioned dummy with the round end. i first bought it in a backwater quiet chemist that are no longer stocking them (cos they cant work out where they got them from seems to be the reason...hmm)
i am stressed out that i only have two left and as he is now sleeping through the night i HAVE TO find some moooore!

so, any one know the ones i mean and who makes them. they are described on one site (that didnt stock them just referred to them) as the original rounder ended dummies

very very in need of help on this one ! thank you
PS ive tried EVERY chemist known to the planet

The teat style is called 'Cherry'. Tommy Tippee make them (along with loads of other manufacturers). Boots/Mothercare/Tesco/Superdrug stock them

lucykate · 21/04/2006 21:02

am i right in thinking by round end you mean what they call 'cherry'?

there are normally 2 shapes you can get, orthadontic or cherry, mothercare stock both. my ds used the cherry shape until he got his first teeth.

or are the ones you're after even more rounded than the cherry ones?

thanks guys

ive tried every kind of tommy tippee and nuk etc etc and they all fall out he cant get enough grip on to them cos the bit between the cherry teet and the plastic bit at the front is shorter than these old fashioned dummies i somehow found

thinking about it the doc says he is slightly tongue tied and im wondering if that has an effect to them falling out

thanks for your help anyway i think the only thing to do is to keep going to the original chemist where i found it and try and get them to get their heads around where they must have ordered it from! bummer eh !

Think i know the ones you mean.My local shop had some.I can look and send some to you if you need me too.I had 2 but not sure if kept them because dd2 found them to long!

Ledodgy · 21/04/2006 21:32

Yeah i'd look in your local newsagents they always seem to have the old fashioned dummies hanging up in the background.

NomDePlume · 21/04/2006 21:34

I know the sort you mean. I think my local Spar does them, they have a rack of '£1 bags', full of different things like elastic bands, drawing pins, hair bobbles, etc.

bonkerz · 21/04/2006 21:35

Do you mean the ones with the round base and cherry teat? I mean not oblong or oval plastic base BUT round? Am i making sense?

bonkerz · 21/04/2006 21:36

was going to say that my local asda do 2 for £86p and Wilkos do 4 for 99p. I have a mindee who will only use these dummies! Also found them in my local post office.

tortoise · 21/04/2006 21:37

I just found one of them in my nappy bag! you are welcome to it if you want it! think been used about twice.

LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:40

THATS IT!! Its the super cheap ones that look like theyve been there gathering dust for a hundred years !!

Tortoise thats VERY kind of you to offer to send some. i will hunt round at newsagent type places and theres a spar also nearby i havent tried and if no good then i would really appreciate it if you could send them!!

also i think the steriliser might have melted them a bit cos the ones i had (before i realised there was a dummie drought on the horizon) all went a bit squidgy i thought it was cos he chomped on them excessively but it could be the heat

my mum uses hideous milton i think i will do that tomorrow - to prolong the life of the ones ive got. does anyone else use milton?

thank you all its a relief you know what im talking about !

LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:41

o wow bonkerz i will go to asda tomorrow and check there too !!
thanks - looks like i'll be ok tortoise !

bonkerz · 21/04/2006 21:42

Milton is great! Use it for all DDs dummies! You no longer have to rinse now before use either and they are sterilised in 15 minutes with milton so perfect for the baby that constantly spits out! Am more than happy to pick you some up tomorrow if you cant get them!

LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:45

thank you ledodgy i THINK they are ok - cant quite see the length - i will order them anyway

when they say they are individually wrapped does that mean you can just open them and go - what about sterilising

or am i being thick - do they mean of course you still have to sterilise?

thanks for that - good research !

OP posts:
LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:46

thank you bonkerz thats really kind

im beginning to think i dont sterilise enough ! if he spits out and its just on a towel or something i stick it back in ! obviously if its the ground i do sterilise

how often should i?

OP posts:
Ledodgy · 21/04/2006 21:47

Yeah i'd still sterilise them 5 mins in boiled water should do the trick.

LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:48

btw

this is my first time on mumsnet - im amazed how kind and helpful you all are - its brill

someone recommended it ages ago but i was so fazed out and now im going to get obsessed by it i can tell !

OP posts:
Ledodgy · 21/04/2006 21:48

with my dd i'd sterilise them everytime they fell out of her mouth no matter where they fell. Now i only sterilise once in the morning or if they fall ont he floor for longer than a second Grin The relaxed manner of a second time mum!

LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:49

ledodgy you just immerse them in boiled water - no milton?

OP posts:
LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 21:52

thanks
yes i know that funny fall on the floor second where you think it didnt really happen cos it was quick !

OP posts:
Ledodgy · 21/04/2006 21:59

Welcome to mumsnet beware it's very addictive Grin
yeah stick it in a bowl of fresh boiled water for 5 mins that does the job.

LadyHoward · 21/04/2006 22:04

am buying those on ebay - i had no idea ebay sold other things other than second hand goods

when i was researching for them i saw a link to ebay and ignored it !

thanks for your help going to bed now
next thing i have to fret about is bloody vaccinations !! i never knew i had it so good when it was just me, my job, the size of my hips to worry about....

OP posts:
lucykate · 21/04/2006 22:05

aaahhhh, the power of mumsnet takes it effect Grin

one simple thread about dummies and you're sucked in for life!.

ime you don't need to overdo dummy sterilising. babies need to be exposed to some germs. for example, today, ds crawls out of the back door onto the decking, goes over to a large plant pot, pulls himself up, pulls his newly sterilised dummy out of his mouth, drops it in the plant pot and starts eating dirt Shock
