dd1 now 3 has been toilet trained for over a year. trained very easily with very few accidents.
But now has suddenly started wetting herself, not everyday but 2-3 times in the last 2 weeks.
Have no idea why, nothing significent has happened and nothing major impendinng to unsettle her. I've her why but get answer she just shrugs her shoulders.

Don't know why now after being trained for over a year....how do I tackle it, she knows well enough how and when to use the loo???

Hello alicemama, mine did a bit of this when she was just getting into concentrating on her drawings, she didn't like to be distracted by a visit to the loo. Soon stopped though, think I used small chocolate bunnies for a bribe at the time. Don't worry she doesn't get one every time she goes now Smile

Might be an idea to check with the GP whether she has a urine infection, if you think it is really out of character. Otherwise maybe try star charts etc?
My ds1 has had a very prolonged regression for the last 6 months, (we are on a good phase at present but it has only lasted a week or so!) but with him it was more a change in the degree of his unreliability rather than goign from perfect to terrible overnight!

DS1 who was trained at 3 is still having accidents at 4 1/2. Seems to me that being toilet trained and actually being bothered to go the toilet are quite different things, at least for my little darling. I'm ashamed to say that from time to time I've become quite cross with ds1 for his accidents. Much more success with a combination of not being bothered and re-introducing star chart. He is much better at the mo., but I do have to keep on his case.

Incidentally, I never thought that he had any problems down below, but it's something to bear in mind - query infection or similar might cause problems/accidents?

Good luck.

I know lots of children who started having accidents after being reliable for a year or so. They do get engrossed in things and just leave it too late to get there on time. My ds 3.6 yo is awful at this. He know his bladder so to speak so thinks he has time to finish this and that and then it's just a bit too late. My dd who is 5.6 yo even wet herself after 2 yrs of being dry because she thought she could get her new book without losing her place in the queue and then it was too late to get to the toilet!

Yes Jamiesam, my ds1 is very similar to yours. There was a 4 yr old on little angels with persistent wetting and for her it seemed to be linked to getting attention for it - so I am trying really hard to totally ignore accidents. we've also had a bit of success with the mantra 'you're in charge of keeping your pants dry' (although I do still insist he goes at certain 'danger' points)
He has been good over the holidays, but this is a pattern that seems to be recurring - I wonder whether it is a lot to do with tiredness during term time. Certainly it all went pear shaped shortly after he started at preschool.

second what has been already said :)

dd (4) actually wet herself twice a couple of weeks ago, she was too busy playing!

If it keeps happening though have her checked for UI just to be on the safe side.

Also if there have been any changes in routine that might be a factor.

thanks ladies, good to know that it happens to others as well....just going to have to keep reminding her

I tell my ds to go and get clean pants and put the wet ones in the laundry. I also tell him it is not acceptable to wet himself when there is a toilet near by and leave it at that. The fact he is taken away for longer from his activity when he wets himself seems to be sinking in now Wink

elliot and jamiesam, I have a ds like that too. We go through good and bad phases and use various methods of bribery. At the moment, he's had a couple of toys removed due to having had lots of accidents, and I keep having to remind him to go to the loo. He always resits so I remind him that he's supposed to be working towards getting his toys back (and that if he doesn't make an effort he'll lose something else). With him, I think it's a combination of the fact that he can't be bothered to go, and attention seeking. He's 4.4 and has been in pants since he was 3 (has never been properly clean and dry though Sad).

Must go, have just heard him go into the loo Shock!
