Safety in cots

Does antsy one have any information on the safety of toys on cots?

My 3mo is starting to enjoy soft toys at night and will self soothe (sometimes!) with a soft toy. This is one of the cloth pieces with a head at one corner and knotted edges at the other corners.

I let her have it during her evening sleep, but take it from her when I go to bed so she can't put it over her face when I am asleep.

What do others do, and when would you leave things on with her?

Not sure on this one, is the cot by you?

I would say (and this is only my personal opinion and not backed up by any scientific evidence) if in doubt then don't put it in, or remove it once she has settled back to sleep.

That said, I used the approach that once they can roll over (for my DS it was around 6 months) and move things themselves, so in theory could lift it off their face, then it should be ok to leave it in. Depends on the fabric, could you breath through it?

My DS is attached to a muslin and has one go to bed with him every night think iggle piggle from in the night garden and you get the idea but this is light enough for him to breath through and he can move it off his face. I've let him have it since he was about 6 months and was in his cot in his own room and not moses basket next to me. He now also has a few soft toys thrown in as he's 14 months old so he plays with these when he wakes up rather than just screaming for me to go get him although that still happens

Think what you're doing at the mo sounds sensible until a bit older and can move about herself etc.

My post natal classes started when my baby was 3 months and we we're told that those kind of toys and cellular blankets were fine by then, no cot bumpers till 12 months though, I'd go with your gut there's no point letting her have it all night if it makes you stay awake worrying about it

Thanks, sounds sensible. I think I will keep on taking it out even though she probably could breath through it. She is by my bed , but I am a heavy sleeper. Will do as craving says, and maybe rethink when she is more mobile.

She is very cute when she strokes it when sleepy!
